Pace of play
Is there anyway to force games to finish quicker?
A problem I had when trying to do an Arena League was that so many players got on base (i wanted the games to be high scoring, fast fun).. that the games would last ages. Now the point imo of an Arena League (in my head) was that it would be a quick day out, 2 hours tops for a game. But its hard to stop making pitchers get everyone out quick, against wanting the games to have scoring, steals, players on base etc I tried to eliminate walks, IBBs etc but it was a hard struggle to get that balance and in the end id have big scores but games going on for 5-6 hours on occasions in test runs. |

Why bother? The time of play is really just cosmetic.

I suppose it is just cosmetic but I like to immerse myself in the numbers generated, so when I see 6 hours of play... im like, would fans sit there watching 6 hours of baseball inside a stuffy dome
![]() Maybe im over thinking it all, just an OCD I have sometimes I get an idea of what I want and try and replicate that to the tiniest details

In the olden days (like, the 19th century), games generally lasted around an hour and a half, and that’s even with stuff like high scoring due to lots of errors (wearing gloves wasn’t a thing until fairly late in the period and even then the gloves they used were much different than the ones used today) and rules that allowed players to foul off pitch after pitch without it being called a strike (that rule didn’t go into place until I think 1900 in the National League and 1903 in the AL). Pitchers just plain worked more quickly. I believe that statistically speaking the pace of play was faster on a per pitch basis even 30 years ago compared to now.
I guess the point being is, I’d take game time with a pinch of salt. If you want to take it lower, reduce walks and strikeouts, maybe implement the 3 batter rule for relievers (and make manager “hooks” slower for starters and relievers in the settings), and so on, but above all you could probably lop off 15-20 minutes of game time by changing the culture, so maybe shoot for 2:15 instead of 2:00.
