Battling to avoid relegation. My team was a slightly above .500 team before I made the move to OL. Swapping out a handful of starters (mostly my best players) has put me behind the eight ball. I've tried to rebuild on the fly, but that meant buying "better" players that didn't necessarily fit a gameplan. There's been some signs of life, but tomorrow will be a rollercoaster. On the one hand, my team would not exactly be a dominant OL team at the Gold level, but on the other....PRIDE.

Not trying to hear Marcellus Wallace on that one.

PS sorry for the rambling, but I've been working in the garage, drinking, and checking my teams all night. On the whole, its been fun! Peace!

just add the Gold level teams to your friend's list and be sure to set your preferences to 'use friend's list' (see link below).... good idea to add the teams in the Diamond/Silver leagues as well to cover promotions/relegations (especially if you won't be around Sunday night to update your list)

Reinforcements arrive

After winning the Bronze World Series and making the playoffs in their first season of Silver, the Onyx fell on hard times. Scrapping above relegation in 2031, then floating near relegation again in 2032(7-22 in May). The manager finally decided to pull the trigger on some new recruits to help out the pitchers.

Pleased to welcome 94 J Ramirez at 3B, 89 Griffey Jr in the OF, 83 J Russell in the pen (wasn't looking for pitchers but seemed like a solid deal), and finally SE 87 H Heilmann.

DH has long been an issue for the Onyx. 79 Dimaggio and 75 D Mattingly would switch depending on who was having a reasonable season and I didn't want to platoon DH. Hoping the SE H Heilmann can do some damage.

I'm very pleased to have Griffey on board as he is my favorite player and the only version that I expect to be able to afford. Plus, he seems like the best Griffey besides the new one.

Post AS break, the Onyx are tied for the most wins in the league. Aiming for a wild card spot with the new hitters.

looks at watch

Is it Monday yet?

looks at time, sees it's still Friday

Oh.

Very eager to see what diamond Glavine can do in a neutral setting. Might be the only thing keeping me going at the moment as the rest of the silver teams do laps around me with their great points productions and actual baseball competency. Who needs silly things like that when you have the nightly 6th inning stripper pole race and pre-game chug-offs in the parking lot?

Would love to see someone create a user home base map.
I do see a ton of Washington city names in leagues. Any tips on what to do/where to eat in SeaTac? Going to Rainiers and Mariners this weekend.

Darn it, I keep wanting to get another player for a strong run next week but my team just can't generate the PP by Wednesday and now I can't find that player on the market anymore. And I still don't have the convincing amount of PP to be able to buy said card either if it is up.

Edit: Found the card, bought it at 110% avg. 7 days price cuz I don't care, and ready to roll on Monday!

I hear ya. I want to add some players for the stretch run but the ones I want aren’t showing up or are ridiculously priced.

I wish I could make a recommendation but I am afraid the only times I have ever been south to SeaTac is to go to the airport or to head to the Sounders soccer camp.
Sad but true...it is also all new to me.

If you have some spare time and the weather is nice, take a quick boat tour tomorrow from the water. They have one that takes you from Seattle harbor salt water to Lake Washington sea water and back to harbor via bus.

Make sure to ask for the local beers while you are here. Some terrific IPAs and Ambers from this area.

I must have missed the name. Don’t hesitate to ask for specific cards by name. I still have a whale team filled with extras.

Wow. Those are some solid additions.
Good luck. I guess I am lucky that I won’t face you for entire season in the division.

I enjoyed the 89 Griffey card for a long time.
Don’t underestimate the 95 card.
You can train him to 78 in LF. My son is using him on his Woodinville team in Perfect OL league and his OBP hovers around .340.
For some reason, he hit 26 HRs (3.5WAR) last season in Perfect despite his .900 park.

Not as close to that this year but his team is also in a division with a solid whale.

You did not miss it, I just did not say it because I am on Argonaut's side that saying things like that in forum will affect the market.

Looking For "Friends" to join "Our League".

Maybe I am in the minority that thinks the forum exists to talk about great cards/underperforming cards or cards that people should try to get/use without worrying how that may impact the card in the AH or how that could lead to more losses for my own teams.

But then I am also not a person that crawls the forum for card names and then lists them for higher prices.

File me away in the group of “buy when I can find and afford them” and “sell at 7-day or below”.

I guess I don’t get much excitement from the auction house “play for huge profit” game.

Iron 207 Through September 4th

The Mets are on top and have seven OL games remaining, all against Stephensville. Both Redmond teams the Birds (7 remaining) followed by the Crusaders (15 remaining) hold down second and third.

Well I named my 3rd team currently in Entry after Everett's minor league hockey team. Don't live in Washington but will be there in a couple of weeks.

Starting to make a run at the Atom Smashers (only 1/2 out now) but I hope I don't tinker-stinker my way out of at least a playoff berth this season. Still concerned with the back end of the rotation and now my #3 starter is below .500

Picked up 85 Elmer Riddle in the AH to be my #5. With things so finely balanced and Bunning having such a bad start I don't want to risk putting him back in the rotation - give him a fresh start next season. Riddle was the best Reds starter I could get in the AH with my funds available. And he's also another much-needed card toward acquiring Diamond Vada Pinson to back up Jimmy Wynn (as I currently have Silver Vada doing the backing up).

Anyway, good luck to all the OL teams in the playoff push.

In non-OL standings

  • Harlem is in 2nd place in the NC East by 1/2 game.
  • Annandale is atop the NC Central, ahead of Cincinnati by 1/2 game
  • Harlem and Cincinnati are atop the NC wild card standings

Code:
Our League Standings - G328 - Sep 5, 2032
			 W L Pct

I am happy to discuss cards in general, just not the target I really want just now, especially more so because it doesn't show up very often and I want it by Monday.

I don't like discussing specifics of a card I want, not because I think you guys will swoop in and get it, but because I worry someone else on the forums will see the name and get it. Heck, it's difficult enough to get the cards I want without publicly announcing to everyone that I want it!

As for my teams, it's been an overall disappointing season. I have absolutely blown my PP on a few higher-end cards, and they are not really performing as I'd like. Part of it is probably unrealistic expectations, since in a Gold or Diamond league you can't have everyone batting .330 and slugging .500 or every pitcher would have a 6.00 ERA! But it's especially frustrating when you look, and look, and look, and finally pick a guy who you think will fill a definite need - and the card struggles to hit, and in fact, is probably no improvement over who was there before!

I was thinking I need to track my players' WAR season-by-season to get an idea as to when they start underperforming. Maybe that's a good project to take on today.

Bronze Through September 4th

Victoria has jumped Hampton and taken the OL lead going into the last day. With over 125 OL games to play today a lot can happen.

I had to take a step back with San Pedro last season and sell a couple of my "mistakes" and reinvest in the team. After a while looking at the cards in the AH I get hesitant because in breaking down the ratings vs the player I am going to remove I keep asking is it really worth X number of PP?

A little different story for my theme team. Besides the difficulty of the theme I can't decide when the right time is to get off Madlock and Carew. They are PP machines but their WAR is taking a nose dive and they are awful in the field. I bought Jim Rice two weeks ago and haven't made a purchase since. I am sitting on a lot of PP so after today I may need to move one of them. Rice is the DH so I don't have that spot available and I have been in search of a bonafide 1970's CF as I have Roy White in CF, out of position.

With that said I did grab Madlock for my team currently in entry league team just to generate PP.
