I sure will! Most of my research lately has been on deadball guys and 50s....so 40's is a blind spot...

edit: Yea, he had three pretty dominant years during WWII. Poor fellow died at age 45.

gah! my thoughts exactly

going to do a little fun project during the baseball season on my facebook page.... tired of the political stuff clogging my feed so starting April 1, going to post a pic a day of a Cardinal player (like Cooper) with a little blurb about them to see if I can drown out the other stuff.... only restriction is, their jersey number has to match the date (i.e. April 1st=jersey #1; April 2nd=jersey#2).... going to try to do a player a day from Apr 1 through Sep 30.... should be fun

Sounds like fun. I love baseball history but there are tons of players I was not familiar with, starting with Ed Delahanty. I have a book about him sitting next to me right now and am about half way through it. Makes me want to watch Ken Burns Baseball again after so many years.

yeah, it's been kinda fun digging through the old pics/history.... going to miss a bunch of quality players obviously limiting jersey numbers to 1-31, but all part of the challenge.

always been a historical nerd here (remember reading books like "Image of their greatness" when I was a kid.... great read with lots of pics/stories of the early days of the game), which is probably why i gravitate towards those players for one theme team here

I am surprised OOTP is not sponsored by the few companies left to make baseball cards.
I feel like I have gotten much more interested in cards than ever before.
Even the kids are enjoying the history of older players and trying to collect those cards.

...that reminds me....need to take a look at those boxes of Donruss cards the kids found in storage.

When I was growing up Koufax was a Dodger but I still loved him and Drysdale (although at the time I wouldn't admit it). Koufax had five consecutive years that were the best in history. Even Pedro can't touch him!

Yeh prices in 20 are pretty high right now no doubt.

I haven't even ripped open the starter packs yet, but I plan to tomorrow. Wanted to jump in the entry pool and start off in iron and move up from there. No idea how long teams will stay in the entry pool next week but I hope it's all week so I can figure out how to build my team, grab some easy PP, and enjoy it without rushing up the leagues to perfect.

Will drop some coin along the way starting next week too, but will be a little more select about it this time around.

Great idea.

This patience should pay off. Prices will start falling and you will be in Iron when any good teams already moved up to silver or higher.

Just remember...the more time you have in the entry pool, the longer you get to retrain some of your players to new positions.
I was probably already late...but

83 Andrelton Simmons - now 54 at 3B and 103 at SS.
84 Johnny Pesky - now at 60 at 2B and 103 at SS.
82 Ozzie Smith - now at 69 at 2B, 44 at 3B and 92 at SS
80 Jim Piersall now at 49 RF and 100 CF.
68 Ichiro now at 37/38 LF/OF and 67 CF.

Still want to train Adalberto Mondesi to all positions. His Steal rate makes him a great replacement runner.

If I go down losing to Legend pitching at least I can try to keep the score low and continue winning the "most steals award" :-)

Pretty sure players will not keep their retrained defense numbers when the league starts tho. Will need to retrain again when your league initially cranks up.

Are you sure? I could have sworn the Entry league already counted.
You may be right though... it makes sense to not all the retrain during this time.

I just don't remember. It has been a while.

This season, I won 94 games and made the World Series in P402 with basically the same team as I had in our league. We took the 9-time champion Everett Aqua Sox to 7 games, no small feat considering that twinsfan threw perfect Pedro at me 4 times! I think this shows how tough our league was, as I only made the playoffs twice in our six-year run. Thanks for the things that all of you taught me.

Congratulations! My story is not so happy-- 83-79 2nd place 29 GB the Ninja Black Sox. Of the 10 teams from our league, only 1 made the playoffs, the SD Chargers who got 2nd WC. I was in the running for 2nd WC in my league, but faltered at the end-- 6 games against the Ninja Black Sox and losing 5 out of 6 to sub .500 teams.

Wow...4 games against Pedro is a bit unreal.

My Base Thieves won 100+ games and won another championship. I could not get that completed in the points league. I kept getting de-railed by so many of the good teams.
Given the influx of new Pedro cards in PT20, we may want to do another league like that down the road.

A good week overall. Silver Pirates also won a championship in Diamond and are finally back in Perfect.

My Perugia Warriors lost in the WS against a super whale, but we had an easy ride during the season and in the early round of playoffs.

Blue Gryphons lost in the conference finals to a super whale (see above) in 7 games. Good year overall. That team won the WS in 5 so I have to feel good about taking them the distance. Not sure where we ended up this week as I haven’t been able to check yet.

Won 112 games on the season and then got lucky against Asaintsfan and won the Title. He won 113 games on the season so it was fitting we ended up in the Championship together. 😁

Imagine if Gibson had to pitch at the peak of the steroid era. Would have have an ERA that is 2 runs lower than the 2nd best pitcher?
