If I just play the auction house, I'm never going to end up with a perfect card on my team, or one of the really rare players (like, I just saw the Vlad Jr future star went for like 120k PP a couple days ago). But if I buy packs, there's a chance. Maybe you get nothing, but maybe you get someone who fits.

And sometimes, the players from packs give you something you didn't even really know you needed, and it's just such a satisfying feeling to grab that.

Perfect analogy!

Would love to see some other great pulls.
I haven't even sniffed a FUTURE LEGEND yet. Is there a Eloy Jimenez FUTURE LEGEND or just the Luis Robert from the White Sox?

I would rather use my points targeting areas of need in the auction house.
yeah it's definitely a crap shoot.... but there is something exciting about watching card come up and you see... common.. (yawn)... common.. (yawn)... common... (yawn)... then that gold or diamond card starts to peek out the anticipation grows as it seems to slow down as it gets closer and starts to turn around to reveal your prize...

and since i've self-banned one of my teams from the AH, they have no choice but to get packs so far, they haven't seen any perfect/diamond cards yet, but have pulled in 4 gold cards from the 10 packs they've earned.

Just a little request from 1971 White Sox. My all-time favorite player - 3b, Bill Melton '71 nothing really special but was his best year. PLEASSEEEEE! LOL

I might jump into packs at some point but only when I feel their are no easy, reasonably cheap upgrades to found on the auction house.

that's what I had been doing up to this point, but I am now to a point where my teams are not going to get much better buying silvers and cheap golds. so I saved up this week and spent all my PPs on packs in the hope I could get at least a couple players of gold or diamond. no such luck for me, tho the lack of even a single silver was the killer for me, I cant even sell the stuff I got to buy even a single pack now

stuck in mediocrity, teams were about .500 in the entry league, and remain about .500 now

There's no Melton this year, but we'll keep him in mind for next year

I too believe that the AH is the more efficient use of points early on. However, I also plan to switch over to packs at some point, especially if my team gets significantly better before the diamond/perfect market declines a bit.

I too was spending most of my points on targeted upgrades in the auction house. This is definitely effective early just getting rid of the regular cards and filling out the roster with high bronze/silver players that fit your strategy. But then you get to a point where the upgrades are fairly expensive and packs start looking pretty attractive.

I got to that point the last couple days, and this morning I finally decided to splurge and bought $20 worth of packs. I was hoping mostly for SP help, which I got none of. Didn't get any diamond or perfect either. But I did get about 5 upgrades total, some very significant, and of course the entertainment value from opening the packs.

The best card was an 88 Todd Helton, which is really a perfect fit for my park/strategy. That got me pretty excited, he's going to anchor my lineup for a long time.

Then I pulled the peak Paul Haner card, another perfect fit for DH on my team. Actually I had been playing the inferior version of Haner before, and had been eyeing this card for a while. Pretty stoked about that. I'm pretty sure I will lead my league in doubles by a huge margin (I was already leading significantly before these 2 upgrades).

To round out the upgrades I also pulled a Mariano Rivera (albeit late career, just rated 80) and improved two of my bench bats. Overall it was a nice haul. I can see myself doing this occasionally. Even with no diamond or perfects it was still worth it.
