Idea for new features and achievements

1. Player cards have special abilities. For example, Mario Mendoza would have the Mendoza Line ability: As long as his card is in the lineup, any other cards that are currently hitting below .200 get a 10% boost to their Contact rating.

2. Pack opening achievements. An example would be:

Hitting for the Cycle: Getting a common, bronze, silver, gold, diamond and perfect card all in the same pack. This would take opening a LOT of packs, so the reward would have to be substantial. Maybe something like an all-expenses paid trip to a gambling addiction treatment center?

What would my Juan Marichal have as a special ability?

Trying to think of a joke that would relate to his assaulting a guy with a bat, but nothing is coming to mind.

I've got it - "Gone Batty" - You pitch better at night due to your control of bats.

No. Just no. This is baseball, not some ... game that... eh. I don't know, I hardly play anything else. But I sure know that there is no place in OOTP for these shenanigans.

I agree. I don’t want gimmicks. This isn’t an arcade game.

aw you're no fun

I was hoping to get the "coffee sipper" achievement by making a starting lineup of players who played one game but never got a single at-bat or threw a single pitch (ala Moonlight Graham).... so on the lookout for these:

1B-Fred Marolewski
2B-Jim Mahady
3B-John Karst
SS-Phil Wisner
RF-Moonlight Graham
CF-Tom Burr
LF-Ham Wade
C-Homer Thompson
DH-Cy Neighbors
P-Larry Yount

Ah, but would you change your mind if there were bat and glove upgrades to be purchased in the online store? Imagine turning your 56 OVR scrub into a Gold Glove winning MVP candidate by buying the Diamond Glove and Diamond Slugger upgrades...

See, *that* is pay-to-win. It also doesn't change my mind, and it also has nothing to do with the original proposition, and I don't know why you are digging such a deep hole for yourself.

Only way you wouldn't want bat and glove upgrades is if you're a pitching-first kind of guy. Don't worry, we got that covered too. One word... bionic arm implants.

I think most people to want this game to remain more simulation based while these ideas would turn it into an RPG. Its not a bad idea itself, but its also not why most people are here, which does make it a bad idea in this specific context.

In case it wasn't obvious, this thread was not meant to be taken seriously.

Although now that I think about it, Tom Henke with a bionic arm would be awesome to have in your bullpen.

Even though Jim Mahady played second base during his entire Major League career he was actually a pitcher. ;-)
