That's a good point. How exactly would one make a ballpark with a 1.2 HR factor and a 1.2 AVE factor for the same batters? They aren't hitting so many home runs that their batting average is 20% higher. And how would you make a ballpark with a 1.2 HR factor and 1.5 2B and 3B factors? What does that look like? Or is the stadium actually on the surface of the moon?

Without looking it up in OOTP (can't at the moment), would that perhaps be the Polo Grounds? Hilariously short LF/RF, completely insane CF and alleys?

I guess that's possible, but I'd think the CF and alleys would suppress HR also.

All parks should be identical and neutral. There is enough variety in the player cards to allow people to build teams based on power hitting, pitching/defense, speed, etc. and a neutral park would allow those strategies to be played.

Yeah, when I started playing PT, I was fully in favor of customizable ballparks. I saw it as a real part of the strategy. However after seeing it in practice, I've really started falling out of favor of it. It seems to have too quantifiable of an effect on how games play out, if the home/road splits I've been seeing are any indication.

Indeed. When most teams are very evenly matched, a 1.2 to 0.8 handedness split is HUGE, and will easily swamp any other strategic elements. The game strategy will become very one-dimensional, as you either play the crazy ballpark game, or you go home the loser.

I would be ok with allowing a choice to clone your park from a database of real parks (current and historical). That would allow for variety and team-crafting without the extreme environments that are gimmicky and unrealistic.

Most people here are thinking about stadium modification in terms of winning.

However, doesn't a stadium with extreme settings increase the ability to PP farm?

You mean having your no-name pitcher get 7 no-hitters in a single season at Hitter's Hell Park is not a legitimate way to make PP?

It sounds like the extreme ballparks would be good for one of those Sunday tournaments (Extreme Ballpark Makeover).

I would love that once you convert to an extreme park, you are moved to the same league with other extremes. The whole league can be lefties.

Heck, if we are going extreme, then let's just assume at the outset that everyone's home record is 81-0, and whoever gets hometown advantage during the playoffs automatically wins. So we can skip simming the entire season, and just randomly generate the WS winner.

[QUOTE=One Post Wonder;4393924]Real life teams adjust their parks to suit their personnel, so I don't see a problem with it.

3 thoughts though:

1. The window in which you can change your park seems too small IMO. I suspect a lot of people who might have wanted to change their parks miss the window. I wouldn't modify my ballpark, but I've never caught a window.

As far as the time for modification, draw up a throwaway league in regular play and design your park at your leisure. Upload it during the window. The window isn't so small that getting up 10 minutes early wouldn't solve your problem...in my humble opinion.

It is, though. I woke up early just to do this and the new leagues were still generating (as they will every Monday AM), so I was out of luck. Now it took more time than normal this week, according to Markus, but I certainly don't think the launch is going to result in fewer leagues being created (a good thing!).

So when the full version launches, I'll be sticking with a 1.000 park b/c I'll never be able to change it.

I am absolutely with you on this Orcin. As I posted when I started the thread, I found enough advantage using ballparks that MLB teams play in today. There are plenty in the historical section too. I just renamed the 2 I used in Rookie and A to the Dragon's Lair and we were right at home. I used Comerica Park and Chase Field. I have drifted my team to more RH now for a different look and am using the neutral 1.000 as I posted. I want to try different things before the real thing start.

I just always expect OOTP to be more MLB like than a tricked up arcadish game. That being said, I like PT and will continue to play. If I spend more time in PT or Challenge Mode after the newness wears off is still up in the air. The tricked up stadiums are the biggest negative for my personal experience. I am a small sample though it seems you have much the same feeling.

Good luck

I really don’t give a crap what other players do. I will just adjust. That’s what makes it so much fun....

Bottom line is I will do the same in some capacity, my friend . I am absolutely having a blast and only stating the one thing makes my head itch a little bit It is not a game breaker for me but at some point it may influence which side of the game I spend more time on. I like competing so in that aspect this is much better that even Challenge mode for me. It is all a matter of how the scales balance over time in my old head.

I am still hoping that they will balance things out so that the ballpark factors are not overwhelmingly the most important strategic element rendering all others insignificant.

There should be many ways of constructing a winning team, and the fun is finding one that is at least somewhat customized to you.

If all there is to look forward to is another 162 games of cookie-cutter all-lefty teams because nothing else is viable, then what's the point?

I mean, as someone who is running a *mostly* lefty squad, there's no reason you can't build an all-righty squad. First off, its WAY easier to find those players. Secondly, it basically means you would make my squad useless when we are at your ballpark. I actually have someone in my division that has a park like this. I agree that building a counter-gimmick squad isn't always what everyone wants to do, but it IS an option.

But theres absolutely no reason people can't build their squads however they want. I think I saw one guy post about how he wanted all switch-hitters and another with all Cardinals. I don't think someone wanting all lefties or righties should have any less of an option.

I do think that if people say we should only be able to pick a ballpark that historically existed, that is a fine option. Lord knows there have been enough parks historically to fit any method of team you want.

I do think that they should do gap power by hand as well. If HRs for righties goes down, gap power should theoretically go up (if they can't hit it over the wall, thats usually b/c the wall is pretty far back, thus more room for XBH). So if you have .8 for RH Hr's, gap power should be at 1.2 to compensate. But thats not implemented now so we make do with what we have.

This is a good compromise. I don't see any problem with an all-lefties team in a park designed to aid lefties. Go for it. I just don't think it should be a park that feels more like a cartoonish video game than a realistic baseball sim.
