Getting tired of OOTP

Don't feel bad, this is how it works for me with OOTP. When I get the bug for a new sim, I'm all in. Like to the detriment of the rest of my life. That sort of all consuming play is why i love the game, but when you burn out it's almost like stepping out of a dark club at 8 am when it's light outside. It's hard to even think straight, and afterwords I always need a break for a month or two

i'll create some crazy world, play it for 40-50 seasons (well sim it) and then, it's suddenly boring. i'll spend a few days coming up with a new crazier scheme, and spend a couple of weeks creating that new league and off i go for another 40-50 seasons ...... it's just when i think i've run out of schemes OOTP will introduce a new feature and it's off to the drawing board!!! So far, i've enjoyed it since 14 and not gotten to the point i see quitting anytime soon. Hope you find a kernel of new ideas and they keep you going strong. Good luck.

Stick them in a town, stick them in a fictional league (because adding them as expansion team to MLB is prone to send you down the false-expectations-with-real-life-players rabbit hole) and play out every goddamn game. And if you're out by 20 in August, still play out every game. That team is your favorite thing in the world, remember?

Finally, if you want to write a dynasty report, write a dynasty report. You write a dynasty report because you want to write a dynasty report, not because other people might want to read a dynasty report. I like engaging day-by-day dissection of team and league issues in a dynasty, I do not like mass-simmed monthly stat dumps. That doesn't mean you should write a day-by-day dissection of team and league issues.

It doesn't matter if you never get a comment, or like, or if nobody ever reads it, because, you know, in the end it's only a baseball league in a computer game, and ultimately we're all gonna die anyway, whether you win seven penannts in a row and took screenshots of your Opening Day roster or not.

Maybe I will read yours. Maybe I won't. Doesn't matter. It's a thing that you do first and foremost for yourself to get even deeper into the league you created. Over time, if done with effort, it can turn into a treasure trove of random stats, memories, and weird coincidences...:



A dynasty report keeps your greatest tragedies alive for you forever. Also, victories, but I have less experience with that since I frankly suck at the game. I just write about it, endlessly. And due to that I could totally go back to the post now and relive Keith Ayers being thrown out at home in the 12th inning to deny us a tie-breaker game against the Crusaders if I desire so.

You write a dynasty not for others, but for yourself. I know about that; there were absolutely times where the Raccoons were the only thing that kept me from going absolutely bat**** crazy for good and forever.

Thanks everyone for replaying really help me create an idea which i am hopefully starting soon and will write on dynasty forum. My idea is to have a promotion and demotion league for historical roster and modern day roster so no money systsm in all of the leagues because every year all the leagues will have a draft like remove all players from the roster into fa and do a draft every year. But i will be using drafy budget because the team that wins the WS will get X number of $ but the playoff teams will lose $ but the team didnt qualify so i am trying to do on excel like every 10 wins you get $500 as an example but i have no idea how to do the formula into excel.
The draft budget like yankees win 2019 WS their draft budget increases for the 2020 draft. Prob end up very stupid idea but nothing hurts to give a shot.

Interesting reading the comments that are posted here. I can understand and relate to all of them. A few thoughts about keeping it fresh:

1. Moderation. Too much of anything is likely to diminish the enjoyment. In college Econ we called it, the 'Law of Diminishing Returns'.

2. Consider the scope of your project. Some times big things come in small packages. Fewer teams, shorter seasons, etc., breeds more familiarity and closeness to what you have. For example, today I began working on a small 12 team organization. It makes it more manageable. Less uniform and logo design, etc., and I'll have less statistics to digest (not that it's ever been a problem before )

3. If you are not gifted as a writer let your stats paint the canvas. You can even post the in-game text generated by the game, itself. Don't let writers block be a deterrent to your imagination and creativity.

You could also sim your league, save each season and then go back an write the history of your league.
You know whats gonna happen but the community doesn't know so the story is fresh.
That way you could just enjoy your league and when your ready you can write the history of your league.
The bad part would be if you would like a vote or opinions on awards, expansion relocation and other things.

Great part about OOTP is nothing you do is ever corny. It's your game, league, universe. I generally have 3 leagues going at a time.

1. All Players on correct teams
2. MLB fantasy draft
3. Fictional League


I alternative between all 3. Keeps things fresh. I play some longer than others on any given time. Just my little say. I play no other game than OOTP, even play during football season. I'm a year rounder
