New Cleveland baseball logo

I found this very interesting. Cleveland's Scene is doing a logo contest to replace the name and logo for the Cleveland Indians. It's not affiliated with the team, but there is a reward - Cavs tickets.

I know we have people who make logos just because they can, I thought it would be nice for community members to get in on the chance for lewt.

Per the site, deadline for subs is December 1

Not so much the name . . . What's wrong with "Indians"? I have witnessed instances when even Native Americans referred to themselves as "Indians." Sure, it's based on some stupid early explorers thinking that they had made it all the way to India . . . but that logo has to go. I have hated that logo forever and I simply refuse to use it in my game.

Chief Wahoo is my favorite logo in baseball (ooooh controversy). In all honesty...the block C just looks horrible. The mid '80s version of it was much better, the one they have now looks very bad IMO.

Yes, seen below. It's not very exciting, but I play historically and as the file name indicates (Cleveland_Indians_1915-_0C2340_F0FFFF), it will always be my logo for the Indians until they come up with something better.

I am guessing that you are not Native American. Neither am I. But picture yourself as one and having that grinning, foolish-looking logo representing you and your people. That's really what is horrible.

No, there is nothing wrong with the name "Indians." It's not the "Redskins" which is pejorative in itself. Consider the "Braves," for example. The Boston Braves logo appears below. If this noble image were the logo for the Cleveland Indians, we would not be having this discussion.

Same here. The name isn't what I'd choose, but eh. The logo, on the other hand, is ghastly.

Somewhere I saw a person had converted grinning Chief Wahoo into a grinning Moses Cleaveland and proposed using that as the logo. I liked that idea.

Not until we find out what race, ethnicity, religion, handicap, or whatever you are, then make a demeaning symbol out of it and display it for thousands to see in ballparks and millions more on telecasts. Only then will we count your vote to "leave Chief Wahoo alone" but frankly, I believe you will be outvoted.

I like several of the designs for the Spiders i have seen on here. in my EBL vs MLB league i chnaged them from the Indians to the Spiders back to the Indians so i can use Pwals jerseys. Around 2030 i will change them to the Rockers.

KKK has been around a long time also, yet most people would be offended if a guy in a white hooded robe was walking around the block. Same with the Indians & Redskins.

These names and images have been considered offensive for a very long time. I remembered complaints about the Tomahawk Chop and that was ~35 years ago.

The only difference is that now more and more people are paying attention and coming around to how ridiculous it is to accept openly racist names and images in sports.
