Eating a players entire contract.

So for whatever reason i have found that releasing a player and paying their entire salary has not been available. Anyone have an idea why?

because your revenue-expenses does not equal 64 mil, i would assume

The case is the same with players making less under the rev-expenses. still cannot eaat in one year.

Oddly, though, a fired manager's or coach's contract is paid off in a lump sum (as I agonizingly discovered when I got rid of an underperforming manager whose contract still had three years to run).

Pretty sure that's how it works in real life, too. Witness Bobby Bonilla's agonizing contract...

my grief is with the option being available and now being N/A. doesn't seem to make much sense.

CBA says nothing about how the contract is paid as long as the amount is paid full.

i'm sure the cba has some guidelines / protections for the players, but mostly open-ended as to the means by which it is done for individual situations.

I like realism in the financial portion, which is a choice to use, but that is a bit much there.

There's some downside to allowing a lump payment, because there's no real financial repercussion if you do it at the right time of year - namely after you've spent your money for that year. the worst you can do is the max cash value as a loss rolling over to the next year.

Quite an exploit to avoid well-deserving repercussions for making terrible financial decisions.

Just did some experimenting, and found that the game gives me the option to eat the entire contract immediately (in a pop-up after clicking on Release) for smaller contracts, but not for larger ones.

For my current team, the cut off is around $11.7 million where it stops giving the option. However, when I look at my team finances page, I cannot see how that figure was determined.

When Atlanta released Uggla it did not accelerate into one year. It isn't handled that way because if the player finds employment elsewhere it's deducted from what that team owes him...like when he played for the Giants for a month last year, and began this year with the Nats. OOTP doesn't have that wrinkle in the finances, but it handles the contract years right.

His contract was the result of renegotiation and deferred compensation and interest, not a long-term payout of a bad deal.
