Question on Pitching

Something about this game seems off about the pitching. I am doing a 1978 replay right now and starters are pitching way too long. I had a starter pitching full 9 innings and gave up like 12 hits and 7 runs and was never replaced. All the games I have played so far there has not been more than 1 instance where more than 4 pitchers on a team have been used. Just doesnt seem realistic. Is there a way I can adjust this or should I leave it alone if I want realism. These are computer controlled teams im referring to

Go to: game > game settings > league settings > stats and ai > pitcher stamina ... change to "very low", but that's the default setting

what should it be on for most realistic results?

This doesn't seem unrealistic for the time period to me. Perhaps you should collect some data from bbref and decide for yourself though. I was looking at some of the top pitchers and, for instance, Ron Guidry and Dennis Eckersley pitched an average of 7 2/3 innings per outing that season and Dennis Leonard of the Royals posted an average of 7 1/3 putting that number into perspective that leaves 1 2/3 innings for relievers. Sure, you could throw five different pitchers in there for an out a piece, but why? Its your league so do what makes you feel the realism, however, Very Low for stamina just wouldn't do that for me.

Yep, they pitched all those innings and didn't worry about their pitch count, yet they and many others still managed to not blow their arm out while pitchers today do it on a regular basis. Maybe there's something to be said for taking a full windup, and not throwing your hardest and going for strike outs because you're only expected to go six innings.

That is how baseball was played in the 1970s, yes.
