Ted Williams is better
So in my fictional world that I started in 1941 with the St. Louis Cardinals I noticed something interesting happening in the American League. Ted Williams has one two triple crowns in 4 years. He has also been hit .400 for three of those seasons as well. Oh and also he hit 61 homers in 1942... sorry Roger.

Impressive numbers. Real-life Ted Williams never had 200 hits in a season.

On every three years.
That franchise has been great to me I won the world series 5 years in a row and for the first 4 years I had more that 100 wins each year!! |

Hmmm...there are some a couple odd things there.
1) His walks are actually low; he averaged more like 150-160 walks per season in that era. Basically 40 walks are translating to hits. 2) His total XBH are about right (around 80ish per season). But he has too many homers and not enough doubles. Are you playing in Fenway or a different ballpark? Just curious if there is a ball park effect here. Either way, as noted in Ball Four - he's Ted Freakin' Williams.

Yeah, one of the downsides of Historical Play is that the ballpark factors are way off (to put it kindly) as usually only the BA and HRs are effected and there's never any difference made for handedness or the reality of the ballpark dimensions on doubles/triples.

Yeah, there's a point to be made that IRL if Joltin' Joe and Ted Williams had switched ballparks then both players' raw numbers would be even better than they are presently.
On a related note, one thing I'd really like to see (or maybe even do if I had the time) is get park adjustments (which I believe are now available for every season after 1930 or so at Seamheads.com), apply them to the ballparks, and then apply the park effects to all players. This is made a bit harder by the inclusion of historical minor leaguers (although in some ways it's an even bigger issue than the Polo Grounds being a HR haven to ensure that minor leaguers do not have their abilities unduly affected by playing in the High Desert League), and it's already full of all kinds of nooks and crannies, but the end result would much better for historical leagues, I think. (also, this is another reason why I use fictional players)

Here's a Ted Williams facegen, if you're interested.
