At the risk of getting run out of town...
This isn't going to be popular, but I think it would be wicked cool if all the tremendous features and the realism of OOTP could have a graphics component... that is, I think it would be great if you could choose to play the games in an arcade-like fashion (only not silly tracer baseballs or any of that other arcade-like garbage).
The SIGNIFICANT difference (and the reason I don't play High Heat or MVP Baseball) is that they do not have the simulation, realistic feel, or challenges of OOTP. They are different animals but I think it would be a lot of fun to combine ther best features of a well-designed baseball sim with a graphics-driven game. It would be a killer combination, but I imagine my opinion is probably not all that widely shared among most OOTPers....

HERETIC!!!! Run him out of town!!!
![]() Personally, I want more and better baseball simulation features (doubleheaders, adjustable roster sizes, independent minor leagues, and reserver clause era financials, please?) over any sort of arcade graphics. To each their own... |

I have to agree, to a point. I'd love a game that combined the graphics of MVP Baseball with the OOTP engine.
But I don't own MVP Baseball, and I do own OOTP. I'd rather have the sim features than the graphics any day. Makes me think...there are some Football Pro leagues out there that use FBPro as the sim engine, but create the "screen shot" pictures on the website using Madden. --Eriq. |

I don't think anyone is going to run you out of town for this. I too would love to see OOTP with a graphical representation some day, except that I don't know if I can really surrender any more time to my already raging OOTP addiction.

I'd love to even just have stickmen running around trying to catch a white speck on the screen that is the baseball. That probably wouldn't be too difficult to add, but I'm sure that even the pure stat lovers would get a real kick out of watching their game being played out by stickmen.

By OOTP30, there could be sim action with digitally modeled player FX by ILM or Peter Jackson's group. Not to control, of course (no arcade!), just to represent the sim action.
Or how about OOTP-Centennial where perfect 3-D holographic representations of players are projected into your yard to play out the sim action. What addons there! Of course there will be the mods in the OFX, or Olfactory Effects, where you can smell beer, peanuts, grass and, one of my favs, pipe smoke. Man, I'd be afraid for my marriage. |

Okay, you've prompted me to suggest something that's been in my head for a while. Since there seems to be an interest in a "graphics element", I suggest the following:
The POV of most stadium photos used for playing fields is from high up behind home plate. Isn't that where the GMs and owners sit? Why not have it appear as though you, the GM, are watching the game? Why not some simple baserunning animation? Why not have players (with proper uniform color, of course) run the bases? It would be like watching the game from the stands without silly arcade-style animation cheapening the experience. It should be easy to code a simple running man to go from one base coordinate to another, and to another, and so on. Is this really necessary? No. But it would be nicer to look at than a name box.

stick people rule. And I agree about the graphics. One thing I really liked about FPS BBPro is that you had the ability to watch your team play. All players had the same swings, but at least the fast players ran faster and some players were white, dark, or somewhere in the middle. And there is nothing like watching a live homerun clear the fence. Watching words scroll doesn't compare.

Steve is right, of course. There are more important issues to address than animated stick men running in a circle. But I'd still like to see player figures in the field and on the bases.

When this gets put in, any chance we'll see figures like 36-24-36?

That'll be available with the more advanced "Personal" section engine in Manager Mode 2.
