This Is The Beauty Of Historical Minors

This guy, Ted Cabaniss. Never played a game of MLB ball in his LIFE. Ends up turning into a stud while in the minors in my 1945 game (Started in 1940) and gets his contract purchased by the New York Yankees.

What does he do is first year in the bigs? Oh, just break Babe Ruths record for HRs in a season. This just shows the beauty of OOTP, and the fact that real historical minors allow this type of thing to happen. There are some gems buried in there folks, it's up to you to find them!

It's what makes historical play more than a novelty for once and an actual legit mode all it's own. Turn scouting back on, have it set to OOTP development engine, and watch what happens. The "sure bets" might become busts, someone new breaks ahead, and you even learn a little bit if you lose a bit of self control and start googling people. I'm doing the real deal full force from 1919 and am thrilled to see what's going to happen. Granted might abandon that and go a bit later as the early lack of actual minor affiliates is causing some issues it seems according to others.

That said might be worth changing the ai weights especially for this mode, 25-40-25-10 instead of the default ratings heavy weights. But I tend to swear by those numbers in any mode.

In one RD league using Spritze DB in 16 he hit like 49 HR while the 2nd place hitter had 30.

I still can't wait to try to make Michael Jordan a viable player, then there's Bill Murray and Kurt Russell, and even John Elway played a year in the minors IRL, so it should be interesting

Always off. I love the league the OOTP development engine creates.

Yea, I agree. I have recalc off. I'm in 1961, and although a die-hard Phils fan, I decided to take over an expansion club(Houston). I just saw Mays got traded, and I'm like what, and then I look at his stats, and except for a couple of good years, he's just been average.

Also, I have this in another post, and wanted to know if someone could help!

Have a historical game going in 1961, and I just was reviewing some of the trades, and a team traded for a player whose age is zero? I then went into the list of all MLB players and found about 50 or so players whose age is zero? And the international leagues I added, including Nippon, Korean, Mexican, Chinese, Italian, Baseball Challenge League and Shikoku Island, all of the players in those leagues ages are zero? I thought it would be Ok to add them to this universe, because except for a couple, these leagues were around in 1961.

Good stuff, Bucs. This is why I can't wait for the day when MiLB players can be mixed into a random-debut player pool of MLBers and Negro Leaguers. Especially in the 15 levels of minors days, some guys just got blocked or hurt and never made it.

Forget them, there's one rookie you NEED to build into your teams superstar, good ratings or not.

Oh what's that, don't know who he is? Here, let me find a more contemporary picture of him.

Yes, Randy Savage, real name Randy Poffo, was a MiLB player before becoming a world famous wrestler.

Interesting, when I originally added these leagues, when I went back to the league settings and into where the start date would be, it had 2016 as the date? So I just changed it back to 1961. But I noticed, the players for example in the Nippon League, were born in 1977, 87, etc. So that's why they're age is showing as zero. I guess I may have to delete these leagues.

The youngest players in the MiLB and MLB databases are 15ish.

What do you guys usually do with BASE ROLES/POSITIONS?
Do you make it so guys change positions as they did IRL or not?

Also kind of interested to see how Buzz Arlett and Smead Jolley (the first guy the real-life Crash Davis and owner of the best one-season MLB career, the second guy also a highly regarded minor league vet who only stuck around in the majors for a couple seasons).

While that is really cool and I agree that Historical play is now a really legit option...there is something wrong with my brain where if the "real" superstars don't play well and the scrubs rise up I hate it!! I just get completely messed up if Babe Ruth plays like Ted Cabaniss and Ted Cabaniss plays like Babe Ruth!! HAHAHA

Does anyone have a list of the minor leaguers that are available or is it pretty much everyone?

Also can someone give me step by step instructions on how to import these players? I tend to make a text file so it will be part of that with MLers.

I believe if they are on baseball reference then they are in the game!

I do not believe you can import the historical minor leaguers on a one by one basis yet..... they do not have import tags yet.... *hint hint* LOL
