How Do Fill Out Your HOF Ballot?
Do you fill out all 10 spots? I did not see enough guys that warrant all 10 spots.

Submit who you think deserves it. Doesn't have to be 10 of them.

Only vote for players that are worthy. If there isn't 10 players on the ballot that are worthy, don't vote for 10 players.

Yep, I vote for worthy players. Last year in my personal game I only filled out 1 name on the ballot.

Matt a few seasons back I didn't vote for one. And game nearly voted in a borderline catcher for 73% of the vote

Typically for me, I usually vote for 0-3 players on average and I change the rules to be 80% of the vote.
I usually just ask myself one simple question, "Is he a Hall of Famer?" If I have to think about it or look for more info, then he isn't. I always looked at it this way, a hall of Famer should be a no brainer. You hear his name and you just know. |

I believe I've submitted ballots with between 0 and 5 candidates on them. If I don't think anyone on the ballot deserves it, I submit a blank ballot. I've never had more than five though.

I'm questioning whether good old Vern' is worthy of the HOF...
"The Beast" on the other hand definitely is.

I personally use all 10 spots because I think there's always 10 guys you can make a case for. take 2016 for example, how were 10 guys not chosen?
Ken Griffey Mike Piazza Jeff Bagwell Tim Raines Trevor Hoffman Curt Schilling Roger Clemens Barry Bonds Edgar Martinez Mike Mussina X-Alan Trammell Lee Smith Fred McGriff Jeff Kent Larry Walker X-Mark McGwire Gary Sheffield Billy Wagner Sammy Sosa Jim Edmonds Nomar Garciaparra Mike Sweeney David Eckstein Jason Kendall Garret Anderson Brad Ausmus Mike Hampton Luis Castillo Mike Lowell Troy Glaus Randy Winn Mark Grudzielanek |

Off-hand I would call the last 2 guys on the second page potentially better selections than Ken Byrd (Ty White in particular has about the same counting stats but seems to have been the dominant SS of his generation for his league whereas Byrd only got to the AS game a couple times, indicating to me that he was more just pretty good for a while than great for a shorter period of time).

I set up a 20 Player Ballot but start with historical leagues waaaay back in 1871. Depending on league setup, I've voted as few as 0 players often to as many as 6-8 players in a single given season.
What I tend to look for... Very rarely do I immediately recognize a stud name tbh but I do manually vote the end of year awards so consistency helps. - WAR: Ideally it should be at least 40.0 for me. 45+ is usually a very good player. - wRC+: I tend to look for 120+ as a minimum over their career. Anybody with a 140-150+ is just an automatic. - Career Arc: Did they mostly play out their 10-15 year career starting consistently or did they vary? I've seen guys with great WAR/wRC+ but they were compilers and usually played 7-9 great years then tacked on 5-7 crappy years after that kind of muddies the waters a bit. I've also seen SP who became relievers, which hurt their numbers (and even vice versa!) which makes for interesting debates on a John Smoltz-ian level. I do also look at the era they've played in too. Starting a league in 1871 and seeing guys with 2000-2500 hits initially are usually worthy of looking a little deeper whereas by 1905-1910 you can get a feel for the upper 2800-3200 hit club as one example. |

How much influence does the user-submitted ballot have on the final outcome?
