What’s changed in OOTP in the last ten years?

I was a big OOTPer back in the day – it looks like I joined this forum 14 years ago, although the last version of OOTP I played was 2006. On a whim I was considering picking up the new version this year.

Can anyone point out some of the big picture changes OOTP has undergone in the last ten years? At first glance I see that there are now officially licensed rosters, but I'm curious as to any other major developments or improvements that change the way the game plays.

Way way too many to list. OOTP has grown leaps and bounds in HUGE ways.

Download the demo of 16 and take a peek - buckle up first

I've only been playing since OOTP 13 and I see massive changes since then (OOTP 16 was a massive step up, probably the biggest one) so I can only imagine the positive changes you would see.

I would recommend reading the newsletter announcements from previous versions to get an idea of the yearly changes, big and small. I know they are posted on the site somewhere. You may even be able to find them with a google search.

Honestly that's kind of like going to sleep in 1995 and waking up in 2015...hard to tell ya everything.

By the way Clinton is running for President again!

On the topic though, the game is fantastic.

Nice try. And I'm sure Donald Trump is a legitimate candidate as well?

Bro lets just say OOTP is just one version away from being able to print out your players using a 3D printer, they will be life size

Game is amazing, and when you get it, and if you're married, call your attorney, because your wife will be divorcing you soon enough. Let her have everything but the laptop(computer), so you can still play OOTP.

Well, everything seems to be said ...

I started about the same time you stopped playing - I remember I first heard of it when they offered a free download of v8 ?? I found it pretty complicated and didn't use it much ... a couple of years later I started it again, liked it and found out they were at v10. Even that leap was amazing.

So how should I explain the difference ?

Well, did you have a cell phone back then ? Do you have one now ?? They are different, right ??

Your TV screen and computer from then ... compared to today ... different, right ??

Okay, if you think the difference between cell phones, TV's and computers from back then to now is huge - let me tell you one thing: This is nothing compared to OOTP in 2006 and in 2016.

Some guys here on the board occasionally forget that it still is "only" a game, software ...

Trust us - It's all you need

It uses more googabytes at the cost of fewer moogabytes.

The game has a new feature that when the Cubs win the World Series the game immediately deletes itself from your drive and doesn't allow a re-install. Fortunately this feature has never been put to the test.

I used to be able to see What player my star hitter got his first hit off of and see what player he got his 2000 hit off of or first home run now I can't and I haven't been able to do that for over 10 years I miss this feature.

This game has grown up so much along with the actual sport of baseball it has been great.
The biggest thing for me in growing thins game has been the way OOTPD has grown the MLB start up game with all these leagues and real player and stats, I personally never play with real players but I always make a game and look at all the hard work that has gone in to the Real player leagues and will pay for the game even if things didn't get improvement that I was looking for I respect the series and the guys putting in the work.

My fav improvements in the last 10 years

1. HOF voting omg love this so happy I was drooling last year for this.
2. Associations for different leagues, I always have at least 2-3 Int baseball league along with MLB having a final championship was so great to have made having the other leagues a lot more enjoyable
3. International leagues when this feature was added It added a whole new dynamic to my game setups and made the gaming experience very unique starting a GM career in one of those leagues
4. STATS: I love Stats so every year the way the game uses and keeps track of stats I just fall in love all over again.
5. The Changes to the bullpen dynamic Culminating with this year addition of Avoid High Leverage totally makes my experience a lot more enjoyable.

There is so much more that I REALLY love but these were the ones I was really look forward when they were announced.

It's moved from being a very good "game" to being a challenging intellectual experience IMO.

i did this list a couple years ago comparing the diff between ootp 8 and 15. so more stuff has been added even since this. but...

-individual pitches rated
-draft bonus demands more realistic draft experience
-stats for players you draft from their college or high school season
-single game records and playoff game records recorded
-improved historical settings
-automatic league evolution, with it turned on your league can have expansions or enter a dead ball era, etc. fun things that change the game as you play makes the game more dynamic long term
-storylines
-drafted players sometimes have the rare ability of both being a top pitching and batting prospect
-addition of stats like FIP, wOBA, Zone Rating, WAR
-it now shows you recently retired players
-baseball cards
-team owners with names and personalities, sometimes your team gets sold and the new owner is less than generous
-player development screen showing your organization with top prospects and such
-retroactive DL and the ability to have injuries take a few days to figure out what they are.
-rehab assignments to the minors for players coming off DL
-new league newspaper
-a preseason projection that predicts the final standings and top players
- an offseason center that shows the top free agents and all offseason transactions
-coaches now have a history of whwere they were
-can set pitch counts for pitchers
-can lock players to certain minor league levels
-playoff rosters
-a GM only mode
-associations where multiple leagues can be a part of an association with a playoffs
-real time simulation, watch all the box scores of every game in progress, great for the final day of the year as you watch teams trying to get into the post season.
-random historical player debut. imagine starting a historical league and in 1914 getting a draft class with albert pujols, rickey henderson and ty cobb. all possible, you don't know who to expect in the draft with this it's great.
-you can now set how many international amateurs each team discovers each year, there is an amatuer internation signing period for top prospects
-you can set different percentages of what countries your players come from, if you wanna see more aussie players you can up the percentage.
-the game comes with the facial hair mod giving you a lot more facial hair options
-the facegen project which you can play a historical game and download the facegen pack and see every player in history in the jersey of your team and if you trade them see them change jerseys.
-you now have an international complex for your international signings that are under 20.
-a trade log screen, even a screen that keeps track of every trnascation you made as a GM
-player development, you get an email every two months telling you which players are improving or getting worse so you don't have to constantly look around your organization looking to see for changes in star ratings
-minor league contracts can have bonuses
-spring training roster invites
-optional away jerseys
-you can set how many pitchers and batters each team has to carry
-spring training games are now played in a park in warm weather so there are less injuries in spring
-you can now easily create a league with historical teams (a league with the 1919 white sox and 1998 yankees is a click of the button away)
-addition of optional realistic foreign leagues with real japanese players for *** and other leagues like KBO etc.
-customize spring training length
-set age limits for minor league levels
-playoff matchup editor
-retire uniform numbers
-faster faster faster than ootp 8
