Spot Starter %

Can someone explain to me how the spot starter % works? I use the "start highest rested starter" option. To me, a spot starter pitches when the others are tired, but I'm not sure that's how it works in the game and if it is, what's the % for?

If I'm not mistaken the spot starter will start X% of the time for the "bottom" starter. X=the percentage the you put in and I don't know that "rest" factors into it, though I could be wrong.

It's been a month since this was first posted so I will just reply here with my question. Can anyone confirm that Steve's assessment above is correct? If I have a four man rotation, will my spot starter at 50% start in place of my #4 guy every other time thru the rotation? I have been trying to figure it out on my own, but all I seem to do is confuse myself (kinda like with the depth charts...ha ha!)

Steve is correct. The spot starter will replace the last man in the rotation whatever percentage you assign.

In a 4 man rotation, the spot starter will share a percentage of starts with the #4 starter.

In a 5 man rotation, he will share with the #5 starter.

I select "strict rotation" and this works out fine.

Sometimes I also put the "spot starter" in as middle reliever. In this case, the number of starts will depend on whether or not the "spot starter" is rested at the time the #4 or #5 starter's turn comes up. The spot starter will be skipped if he is not rested.

If you use "strict rotation" and do not put the "spot starter" in the middle reliever slot, you should get whatever percentage you assign to the "spot starter".

I know you use "start highest rated starter"...but I know nothing about that mode.

I checked the manual and all it did was mention the spot starter would get the assigned percentage of starts with the last pitcher listed in the rotation. There is no mention of "strict rotation" or "start highest rated starter". The OOTPB Manual really needs to be expanded. It is grossly lacking in explaining the game. Thank Goodness, we have such a good forum to answer questions that should be in the manual.
