PSA: Stop asking about the 17 release date.

You'll get your answer when you would normally get your answer. Asking for it doesn't get it to you earlier.

You typically don't get answers to that type of question on demand. Of course, I've never seen people stop asking after being told to stop asking either.

Why do people get so upset over this? Either Markus ignores the thread, asks them himself to please stop, or he can give an answer. As for everyone else just ignore it and it will go away in a day or two. Its not that big of a deal

It happens every year. I see it as something good. It means the game is doing well if people are asking for a release date. They will learn that asking wont help and they will have to be patient. It doesnt bother me but i can see how it might be annoying if we had 300 threads of release dates.

Plus OOTP16 is so good, it's more than enough to hold everyone over until OOTP17 is released.

Internet people need to know about release dates early, because they need time to get their rage posts for immediately after release set up, "because A doesn't work, B should be in the game, and feature C is dumb, and the last version was better by miles."

I wonder if it makes some people ask more.

If I didn't know enough about the game development cycle to know better it might make me ask lol.

Exactly. If nobody asks, then someone who isn't familiar with the typical release schedule is going to ask. There's no harm here. If anything, maybe there should be a sticky that's updated once info becomes available. No need to wait until there's an actual announcement to put that sticky up there.

I never understood why the fact that the earth completed a rotation around the sun means that a new version of a sports game must come out. Especially after 16 iterations. I realize that people gotta put food on the table, but I also get a chuckle over the Maddenization of all sports game. Think about how much more efficient the programmers could be if they spent 12-18 consecutive months designing a new version rather than 6(?) months designing, 3 months patching and then the next 3 mixing patching and planning for the next version...

As a consumer I completely agree with you but looking at it as in a business point of view it would only make sense for them to make a new version every year. And honestly the product I feel is so good it's worth my money

OOTPDev is a small company and they do need to put food on the table. Additionally, they took a year off in between I think it was OOTP 6 and 7 with just a patch/service pack in between (OOTP 6.5) and the results were if memory serves pretty disastrous. Say what you will about Maddenization but people do indeed expect sports games to come out yearly now.

I agree somewhat with what you are saying and it is in fact the reason I stopped buying any games by EA and usually skip a year in between the 2K games, and I think it's the reason that the Front Page Sports series went under. But I think that the guys at OOTP do a really good job at adding more than just fluff and roster updates each year. Over the last 3 or 4 versions the game has really transformed and we have got some great new features and bug fixes that these larger companies would overlook, and in my book is well worth purchasing this series each year

OOTP 6.5 was just a patch? I thought that was a separate game?

More a point release than a patch, but there wasn't a whole lot new in it. I recall there being a lot of buzz around its release because we had all waited so long for it.

Ah yes the reason I ask is because it seems to be highly regarded in terms of memories as it was mentioned frequently on the boards when I first started.

If i recall correctly i think 6.5 was the best of the way ootp originally made the game. I seem to recall that Markus had to program the game differently cause 6.5 was as far as he could go. I think thats why it took so long for 2006 or was it 2007? Others can answer better but i think it was something Markus saw as necessary to the game's progress.

Having said that i recall 6.5 as being one of the best. I dont remember 15 let alone 6.5 but i do seem to recall it was one of the best versions.
