Webdesign help
Our league (Canadian Winter Baseball League) is going through a transition, we are going to go to OOTP5 after this season and we lost a few GMs. I am looking to create a fresh new website for the league but what I'd kinda like is out of my skill range which you can see by going to our website
http://cwbl.ootp-leagues.com Anyway I was hoping someone on this board could give me some help designing it and possibly with some cool ideas for it. If you are interested, it doesn't have to be a professional page but I have my ideas of what I like, I will attach some other league site designs that I do like and if someone out there could help me with something like those ones or better thatd be awesome. I know there are a lot of great webdesigners on here and hopefully they would be willing to help another league commish out. League sites I like: http://www.4everbb.com/ http://www.aba.ootp-leagues.com/ http://www.bbl.ootp-leagues.com/ http://www.cbl.ootp-leagues.com/ http://www.vintagesportinc.com/mlbc.htm If you would like to help possibly please email me @ gergman_7@cogeco.ca or reply to this message. Thanks in advance Greg Lubbelinkhof CWBL Commish http://cwbl.ootp-leagues.com

Hi Greg! I'm no web developer whizz but if you have php and mySQL access on the ootp server, I would highly recommend you install and use a free tool called php Nuke or Post Nuke. Both are content managers that make it very easy to design and set up an interactive league, where registered users can contribute news and other information about their teams automatically on the site. Make the site easy to maintain and manage.
Some of the leagues you mentioned you liked use these tools. My new league does as well and I must admit I'm quite happy with the results. It's at: http://www.alltimegreatsbaseball.us/atgl There are a number of us that can probably give you advice and assistance along the way. Dan ATGL Commissioner BALL Commissioner |

I went to both sites. I know what PHP is, but I can't figure out how to do all this stuff. I downloaded Postnuke and it makes no sense. Can someone help me?

Wow, thanks for mentioning 4Ever Baseball. I use both Nuke & PostNuke on various sites. Postnuke is actually a bit easier to use and tends to have better support and more add-ons available. However, if you are using or plan to use BOSI, then php-Nuke is definitely the way to go as it integrates beautifully into the site.
Feel free to email, PM or IM me (see my profile) and I'd be glad to help get you started if you like. |

There's the key question. I don't believe so, but check with Andreas to be sure.

This site was definitely a "community" effort and I couldn't have done it without all their contributions. Thanks again! |

Is there any free or really really cheap sites that have PHP?

Thrifty-host (link in my sig) Company run by myself. We offer PhpNuke and Postnuke as a 'one button' install. Press one button and the site is up. All you have to do is set it up the way you want it. Forums are integrated into the site as well. Email me and we'll get your league up and running in no time at all! |

Just trying to make sure OOTP doesn't get knocked for not providing these features. I'm sure they are already paying a large amount just providing the official server in it's current capacity. Providing MySQL would inflate that to un-manageable levels.

I have no idea the difference between php and mySQL or Nuke so forgive me for being so dumb. But what is the difference between all of these.. and does ootp.leagues provide any of these?

php is a language like html for writing web pages. php-Nuke & PostNuke are content management systems that use php for websites. And, no, the ootp.leagues server does not offer these because as it says above, they require access to a sql database to install/maintain.
That's the basics anyway. |
