Testing free agency

Does anyone know if settings were tweaked to make it more likely that a player would want to test free agency in one of the last couple of patches?

In one of my solo leagues, which I haven't played since the last couple of OOTP 15 patches, year after year well over 50% of my players give me the message that they want to test free agency rather than negotiate me. In the past, this was a pretty rare event.

I haven't done anything like offer contracts and void them that and the players are all happy. This is happening frequently even with players that have very high loyalty ratings.

Thoughts? Working as designed?

Depends on a lot of variables. More often than not, you need to lock guys up in deals, you can't wait until September and think you're gonna sign him to an undermarket deal. Just like real life why WOULDN'T they test the market, more often than not that's how it'd work in real life unless you're offering a no-brainer deal that's above the player's perception of their get on the market.

But it depends a lot on where your salaries are set in-game for that level of player, because usually they're going to command more than that baseline and if a team is willing to overpay, then they'll set their rate that way..and see where the chips fall.

Your question does make me think of one thing, I don't notice much in OOTP guys who turn down deals worth more to hit the market only to find out the market doesn't really value them as highly and end up signing for less. In OOTP those guys still manage to stay on the FA market and just refuse to sign deals, which is a little crazy in a lot of cases.

But in the current version, you'll want to see 1) what these guys end up signing for because it's usually your 2) years are off or 3) amount is off or 4) both.

It can't be that my years or amount is off, they never gave me the chance to negotiate with them. As soon as they were in their last contract year (early off-season) half my team told me that they will be testing free agency. This is the second off-season in a row this has happened. I've never seen this before, so my main question is did something change in the last few patches?

Check the Desire for Winning on each of them, if your team is not performing up to their expectations, they will want to leave. If your team is doing well and they still want to leave, then I guess they are just being stubborn.
