Expansion Markets
So I have a 307-year old OOTP league that I started back in 2008 or something and I've brought it up with every version.
Anyway, my league has evolved into a major league setup with major leagues in Canada, Japan and three major leagues in the U.S. I'm not looking to expand overseas, so that's not where I'd like to put teams. I'm interested in more US based teams, but want some help figuring out markets since I'm trying not to move teams as much as I normally do. ![]() Here a US map of the league at the moment. Here are the largest CSAs without clubs. Though most have had teams before: Milwaukee Charlotte (our NC team plays in durham for historical reasons) Riverside San Diego San Jose Austin Providence Jacksonville Buffalo Birmingham Rochester Grand Rapids Tucson Honolulu Bridgeport Albuquerque Albany Knoxville Allentown Columbia SC There are others, but that's a good start. I guess I'm crowdsourcing my brainstorming because I've spent lots of time looking at all sorts of ideas and I'm just looking to inject other people's brainpower into this one, so...feel free to share your .02 and I'll figure it out from there. Thanks.

What is your league set up? Divisions? Are you looking to expand by 2 in each league? Are you looking for teams set in a geographic area of the US?

If you're playing a century or more into the future, you shouldn't be tied to the largest metropolitan areas as they exist today. Considering the effects of global warming, you might find that Saskatoon will have a bigger population than Miami (which will be underwater). Likewise, access to fresh water will be critical, so cities around the Great Lakes like Erie, PA and Kingston, ONT may see their populations explode. And Bismarck, ND might turn out to be the next Dallas.
It's your world - you get to decide if populations remain static or if they change over time. Just remember: in 1910, the population of Phoenix, AZ was under 15,000. A century later, it is the sixth-most populous city in the US. |

Buffalo is also another favorite of mine. Just turn on 550 AM in the local area and I don't think these people ever stop talking about their sports teams... So passionate! |

Ah, already got El Paso, then? I'd maybe try Grand Rapids. It'll probably replace Detroit as Michigan's largest city in the next 50 years.

What about a team in the Dakotas? Booming area right now, has a rich baseball history and would fill the void in the northern mid-west.
