Questions asked to me

These questions were asked to me but a little outside my expertise and knowledge. Maybe some of you more experienced gentlemen could help.

]
I appreciate your assistance re my question and was wondering if you could give me some more assistance re OOTP. The basic format of the league we're considering would be:

1. Use the MLB season player stats each season as the player data base, i.e., the 2014 stats would be used for the 2015 season, 2015 stats for the 2016 season. So we would have to purchase the new OOTP upgrade each year as we would be a purely based stats league.

2. Team names would have to be fictional without any ties to MLB teams. So, I assume we would have to create a fictional league to be able to generate the team names/nicknames. If we create a fictional league how do we import the MLB player stats for our player database?

3, We have our own financial system and aren't sure if we would be able to incorporate it in OOTP as it is solely based on player contracts with some other minor revenue generators based on bonuses earned and playoff revenues. Can we manually establish a team beginning cash base and have the software subtract the team salaries game by game? If so how would we set it up?

4. Our free agency would be held outside of OOTP and player contracts would have to be manually added to the player database. Am not sure how this is done or if it could be done.

How difficult is it time wise for a commissioner to run a league of this nature? I apologize for all the questions but since I have only been a participant I never really got involved in the day to day operations of the league from a commissioner perspective.

I have looked through the OOTP manual and unsure of how it all works from a commissioner's perspective so any insight you might have would be appreciated.

I know I'm asking a lot and if you don't have the time to respond I understand.

thanks,

Michael
Item 2 is easy. Team nicknames can be freely edited under Team Settings.

It can be done, but it is tricky. Really only ratings can be transferred over and I assume thats what the guy means, using the stats as a basis for the ratings. If he wants the stats to be actually listed in the game, which I doubt, because he is using fictional teams, then that's much harder.

Basically tell him that transferring players and their ratings over can be done without much difficulty, and to send me a PM if he wants an explanation.

Regarding #3 and #4, The FOBL which has been around since 2002 and has 36 teams and has its own financial system, does FA completely outside of OOTP.

It has custom utilities that are built for this purpose, however.

But yeah, you can do it. It still requires a lot of manual work to get still integrated in-game, but...still, it's pretty much the gold standard for this sort of thing, so TL;DR yes, it's totally possible to create a viable league this way but you're going to need to spread the work out amongst a commissioner and some other leadership within your league because it's too much work for one person.

Even in fast-sim where we still did most of our stuff in-game, the commish job became pretty big, so...that's the critical thing here is to have your leadership team and people you can trust to make it all happen.

Oh, yes. I'm afraid that I hastily misread his question. The only answer that comes to mind is to change the concept slightly by using the stats and players from the second previous year. The fictional 2015 season could then import the historical 2013 teams, and players could be assigned to their fictional teams.

Did you guys develop your own utilities or are there some available elsewhere?

Wow, the FOBL is still going strong. Thanks for posting the link. I took a little trip down memory lane. All these years later, with every pitcher I acquire, I am hoping to find my next Danillo Jones.
