You know guys, this would be much better if we could get a text version of the in-game Play-by-Play. I had brought up the possibiltiy of saving the P-b-P froma a game once before, but I think it was a minor priority this last go around.

If we could get Markus to consider it again, this text to speech things could get interesting

I created an MP3 of the first inning of the 1954 World Series Game Four (of SO49)...

It was, considering the limitations of the program, really fantastic. I used play logs and essentially wrote in my own PBP. Only problem was, through an intro and one inning of play the size approached 8 MB.

I forwarded the kink to Markus and made that suggestion.

The play-by-play would be much better, but this isn't too bad and it's real simple to do. If anyone wants the macro, let me know and I'll e-mail it. You can edit the text however you want from that.

As for file size, the file is about 5 megs at 64 k bit rate.

I'm interested in the macro to convert the logs. I grabbed some free text-to-speech stuff, but I don't think it can output.

Having done lots of experiments with speech and MP3 over the years, 16kbps is the optimum. 8 is far too low, and 32, in some cases, sounds WORSE than 16?

This is a really good idea

Guys, this is a really cool idea and what you've got so far is really interesting... However, instead of creating an actual .mp3 file, what needs to be done is to create an actual program that loads the log file, does the conversion, and does the playback. This way anyone can just load up the log file in the program and play. Being an experienced programmer myself, with knowledge of how to use text-to-speech, I think I will try to set something like this up. It might take a couple weeks to get it just right, but I believe that I could make this thing really intersting; for example: including sound effects (such as the ones from OOTP5), having a 2-man announcer team instead of just the one announcer, each with a distinguishably different voice, and an in-depth play-by-play descriptions... To me, this is very simple, however quite time-consuming. If anyone would be interested in helping out with writing some play-by-play or anything else, you can contact me on AIM, my screen-name is: gh0rticus, or you can e-mail me at caveman@kent.net.

Im glad people who CAN make this happen are taken it upon themselves. Great to see! Good luck. PS, make this program useable for other sports games by 400 Studios as well!

JJD sent me the macro and I just ran it. I had AT&T Natural Voice take a run at it. Not bad. Only problem is it interprets the AL in the AL All Stars team to mean Alabama (when it actually means Atlantic League).

Still, give it a listen. JJD's macro is great. I haven't touched the text output at all. With some work to add some flavour commentary it could sound damn near like the real thing (I could get ambitious and mix in crowd sounds. Some other time perhaps)

hehehe Some other time. I'm off to bed now, though if it gets a good enough response, I may do a "Game of the Week" and post select games

Sounds good.

I'm going to work on the macro some more and try to get it to sound much better.

I like the voice you used better than the one I did. Great job.

Well AT&T Natural Voice sounds a LOT more real. I had to slow the voice down as it sounded nuts at first and sounded like he was trying to call the game as quick as possible
