Log File to MP3 Coverter Utility
What would be the possibility of someone doing something along the lines of the following:
Converting a log file to a "Announcer.mp3" file. For instance: Yesterday I was driving around delivering pizza's (gotta love summer jobs) and was listening to the Yankees/Mets game (Lord knows why). I got to thinking how cool it would be to actually be able to listen to one of my online league games in an mp3 format that I could burn to a disc or mp3 player. I know nothing about programming but Im thinking it would work along these lines: The utility maker would actually have to record all of the phrases in the OOTP5 game text (as well as all of the player names) :-( . I guess then the output would be this actual "announcer" recording a game, pbp, to a 10-15 min long mp3 file. This mp3 file could then be burned to a CD or whatever. I am a loser for even thinking this. But hell, I drive around for 6 hours a day at work and I know at least I'd use it! lol So....somebody make it for me (jk) Just an idea, Mike |

This is a cool idea, but probably would be hard to find a taker.

Yeah, I agree. If I had any idea how to do it I'd at least give it a a try.
I could be the announcer lol :-) |

You could convert the text to audio with any TTS (text-to-speech) engine. You'd be amazed in how good the technology has come along. I work in this field and feel like I cannot share anymore information.

Was going to suggest the TTS thing. In fact, I may give this a go myself.

Hey guys, just read this post and it caught my eye. I just came from the following site and downloaded a demo of a text-to-speech conversion program. Have played with it a little and it seems pretty awesome. Here is the link: http://www.text-to-speech-software.com/. It might be what we need.
Hope this helps anyone.

Just downloaded that program and will test it out later. I'll try making it say all sorts of fun things. Thanks for the link!

Ha, the program from the link above is hilarious. Who wouldn't want Stephen Hawkins reading their game log to them while they drive?
Unbelievable. |

I put together a small and very simple MS Excel macro that can be used to convert the log file into something that sounds a bit like a baseball broadcast.
Using the text to speech editor I made the mp3 file. Click Here This is the game log for a game between the Tucson Demons and the Ft. Worth Roadrunners. It's not perfect, but not too bad either. |

JJd, great idea but i think the mp3 bitrate is way too low. I played it in Musicmatch at 8 kbps and I couldn't understand anything.
