Ootp war

When playing OOTP, what values should be assigned to WAR?

For example, is WAR in OOTP the same as WAR on Baseball Reference/Fangraphs? 2+ for Starter, 5+ for All Star, 8+ for MVP?

Also...does OOTP WAR count baserunning and defense? Or is it a straight measure of offense/pitching?

You're welcome.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Thank you for finding that for me The Wolf.

With that being said: (VORP + ZR) / 10

What numbers have you found to represent offensive players by WAR in OOTP?

Essentially, do the numbers equate to being similar? 0 replacement, 1+ reserve, 2+ starter, 5+ all star, 8+ MVP

Well, that depends on your league's variance in skill levels. The farther your best batters and pitchers are from the average the higher their WAR values will be. You could have a league where a superstar would be a 4 WAR player and another one where a superstar would be an 8 WAR player.

For this reason, I've always found WAR to be most useful for directly comparing players, rather than evaluating a single player against the league.

If you really want to figure out a baseline, though, you could always check out the WARs of the All Star teams.

I wish people would stop saying that, because WAR is an EXCELLENT player valuation tool.

War is a simple yet elegant metric to compare players. Remember war should be discussion starter, not an ender.
Personally, after war/woba, if I'm more curious I look at BB% K% GB% for pitchers, BB% K% ISO for batters, as recently advised by Dave Cameron.

That was a song reference, Wolf. Not sure if Joe From Chicago couldn't resist the joke or was using it to bash that stat.

Brad, I know the song and totally get the reference.

But while it was mildly amusing the first five hundred times or so, now it's just repetitive and annoying.

It was probably me complaining about people taking unwarranted shots. Like that one.
