I can't remember which was the first to include real rosters, but I think it was OOTP 9?

This is one of the more entertaining threads I have read lately. Markus and company must sit back and just laugh.
If they make Markus change the game, he simply doesn't use the team nicknames and logos and they have to be changed. If he isn't allowed to use them, someone makes a roster pack or another all in one job that people download. I just don't get the venom here. Saying baseball is being killed by mlb is such a bizarre thing to post to me. Maybe I'm blind to everything financial but baseball seems to be making boatloads of money, players are retatrdedly rich, things like the world baseball classic is thriving, the homerun derby and all star games are doing great, playoffs are as always great and hell, even the little league world series is doing great. How exactly is baseball dying? Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |

The worry though is that without being able to advertise having real MLB teams it will affect sales.

And NBA commentators complain that NBA Finals don't get such public attention and such coverage as MLB World Series. (Don't remember where have read it, maybe in Bill Simmons book)

I see both sides here and it has been interesting to read all the comments. I don't want to pick sides but I will be glad when Bud Selig is gone (esp. as an Astros fan).
One way MLB is ruining baseball: Instant replay - which was instituted this year - infuriates some baseball purists. The first widely accepted rules of the game were the Knickerbocker Rules which were written in 1845. In those rules, Rule 17 states - All disputes and differences relative to the game, to be decided by the Umpire, from which there is no appeal. Believe it or not this rule still exists today, Rule 9.02. For 150+ years the umpires have been unflappable. Now for the first time in the history of the game they can be overturned (even if it is technically other umps off-site overturning them). As far as sports in general, there seems to be a war of attrition with sports games right now. I grew up playing Tecmo Bowl and Earl Weaver or Tony LaRussa Baseball. Fully-licensed games that stood out and played out their life span without any interference. Then there are games like NCAA Football, MVP Baseball, 2K Sports MLB Baseball and so on. Enjoyable games that ultimately died for licensing reasons. I think there has to be a fine line drawn between protecting your intellectual property and being greedy. I'm not sure what the case here is in OOTP-land in their dealings with MLB but in general we are seemingly erring on the side of greed since the millenia turned. I love replay. We have the technology to get the calls right, so why not use it? I don't buy the whole "human error is part of the game" thing at all. A lot of diseases were a part of life at one time also, but we can use vaccines now. Replay does not hurt the game. It can only make it better by getting it right.

Easiest counter argument ever. We don't have that technology. If we did it wouldn't be used in Baseball.

Ok, how about pull the umpires off the field and just have them analyze pitches and plays from the booth using computer software. -Or- Just have all games monitored and called by the MLB Umpire Center in an off-site location. Neither is practical, the game doesn't need any change. If it isn't broken, why try to fix it.

I thought this thread got closed or it's exact equivalent in content, at least.

It never occurred to me that there were people who actually wanted bad calls in the game. |

This thread is so off topic and hijacked that it does not need to be in the main forum. What does this have to do with OOTP?
Can a moderator put this where it belongs?

+1 for trying to be the voice of reason in an unreasonable situation.
