At least 30 minutes thus far and ..
At least 30 minutes thus far and I haven't started a game yet. I love my baseball sims but I think pre-game organizing of what an auto-manager will do is pretty extreme in OOTP 11. I wanted to be reminded of what OOTP was before going and buying the latest version and I think it might be best I play with OOTP 11 for awhile. So many features and I just got to get used to the menus and doing things as fast as I can. I want to like this game but man oh man is it a super crazy micro-manager. I just don't know if I can ever get used to all this detail cuz honestly I love detail but I can get obsessive about it.
Anyone out there like that when they get in front of something like this with so many features? With all that said it is kind of why I prefer APBA and MicroLeague and some others cuz there is not as much to do. You just set your lineups and go in game and play and get to the baseball action faster and keeps people like me from being obsessive. |

Well ... that's certainly one way to look at it.

You *can* delegate a lot of that stuff to your coaches, of course, and for that matter never play with individual player strategy. In fact, if you're managing every game, there's really not much of a point to monkey with strategy at all since those settings will only ever be used if/when you give the computer the wheel, so to speak.
Where the game differs from MicroLeague and APBA is the complexity to some extent, sure, but more than that it's in the ability to sim multiple season and interact with the fog of war. I remember I played in a Strat league in the late 90s and I had Mark McGwire at first base for me. Plugging him into the lineup in the cleanup slot was a no-brainer, and would continue to be a no-brainer even if I got fantastically unlucky with the dice and he only hit, say, .180 with 5 HRs during a 20 game stretch. In OOTP it's possible that Big Mac isn't just slumping or running through a stretch of poor luck and I might need to account for that.

I ended up creating a second league and just got right into playing with the All-Time Great Mariners. I just went with default everything. I am enjoying the OOTP 11 and even thought Randy Johnson was beyond wild and had to be pulled I am having fun. 4-2 in the 3rd inning ...
I am glad I gave OOTP 11 a look today and will definitely be considering purchasing OOTP 15 but just need to see what is different about it and try understand more about online play. Oh and I am a sucker for punishment btw but I also find it fun and that is I am playing full at bats mode and not one pitch. LOL Last edited by DeViLzzz; 04-22-2014 at 01:42 PM. |
