It's not a war, folks. It's a game. True war veterans must grit their teeth to hear people talking about the "war" of football.
It is an extremely physical and taxing game. Intensity is everything and you can't expect a guy to turn it on and off like a switch. And games like that are not "just a game". If you had an entire football team that felt that way then they wouldn't win a game all year.

They have to get pumped up, motivated, then they hit and beat eachother all game. Then a mic gets stuck in your face after a game winning play, what, a minute later? Did you expect smiles and compliments?

Talking while black, IMO. I'm becoming more of a Sherman fan just because this sure riled up the racists.

Sherman sounds uneducated? Funny, he sounds like a guy who plays in the NFL and has a communications degree from Stanford to me.

They sound like uneducated criminals. Sherman is neither but he did his damnedest to sound like it.
Hmmm. Don't see anything thuggish about what he did or said. Brazen? Sure. Would what he said be considered thuggish if he was white?

Sherman had time to decompress. He chose to hold onto it and he chose to vent all over national television. An act of immaturity that he has since gone on to apologize for.

Good for him on recognizing the distraction he caused by making his beef with Crabtree more important than the team.

I think you may be getting Sherman confused with Bill Belichick

I do think modern entertainers (movies, sports, music) are so out of touch with reality that it is almost inevitable they are going to turn out they was most of them are. The minute someone has talent from elementry on, teachers, peers and parents are praising these kids. They have been told they are the greatest thing on earth are such a young age that they would not hanlde controversy well.

Sorry got on alittle rant there..
Actually we do know a few things. Athletes and entertainers and the very rich have never had to behave like the rest of us. Your favorite hero of the past may have been just as bad as anyone today but the media didn't report anything they did outside the game. If they got into an accident while drunk the cops drove them home. In essence modern athletes have a far more difficult time living any sort of normal life because the media look under every rock and the police won't look the other way because the media will skewer them.

No bad behavior or obnoxious personality was invented in modern times. Anybody who suggests that we had "real heroes" in the past has no clue what was done and not reported in order to maintain the myth.

Give me a break. Two words: Muhammad. Ali.

He was talking more trash and putting down his foes at a far higher clip and skill level than anyone today. If we survived that we will survive Richard Sherman.

Yeah, we get it Bill you don't like Wes, but to accuse him of purposely hurting another player is pretty low.

This is exactly why I think he was not given the time to "decompress".

Babe Ruth before him. When asked about making more money than the president, he said he had a better year. He is famous for pointing to the stands before hitting a homerun. That is the epitome of trash talking.

The crowd was beside itself. And so, it seemed, was Sherman.

"I'm the best cornerback in the game," he screamed during the post-game sideline interview. "When you try me with a sorry receiver like (the 49ers Michael) Crabtree, that's the result you are going to get. Don't you ever talk about me."

Fox sideline reporter Erin Andrews asked, "Who was talking about you?"

"Crabtree," Sherman angrily responded. "Don't you open your mouth about the best, or I'm going to shut it for you real quick."
this is what this whole mess is about...

Well, one thing is for sure. I am really looking forward to this Super Bowl with unusual interest, given that my team is not in it. Yes, I will be rooting for Denver and Manning to beat this "Legion of Boom" and if he has a game like he did against the Patriots, it will be "Legion of Bust."

Manning is a good guy, as far as I can tell, and he's the brother of the QB for whom I usually root. And get it out of your heads, folks, that this is some racist white vs. black nonsense. I think I remember overtones of that earlier in this thread but I don't want to go back and check.

No this is good versus evil! Good versus Evil! (Now look what you've done, you "gladiator" and "warrior" guys. You got me going, now. )

There it is in a nutshell. You aren't going to see that. Because if the LOB was anything remotely close to the Patriots, Seattle wouldn't even be in the playoffs. They are there because of their D. We are going to see just how good Manning led Denver team really is when faced with a D on another level.
