Players retiring to play other sports
Does anyone know the frequency of this storyline?
Our online league just at 2 major prospects quit baseball for other sports -- one for football, one for golf -- within a single season. This storyline isn't sitting that well with some of the members, so I'm just wondering if this is a very rare storyline that we randomly caught twice or what. |

It's a seriously flawed feature. More so in an online league. I'd be po'd too.

In what way is it flawed? The frequency?
Is it an injury scenario? eg is it just an injury that is labeled switching sports or is it its own event? |

Without looking it up can you mention the last two baseball players who quit outright for other sports early in their careers?
No team IRL would draft a player without knowing the possibility/chance of them not being committed to baseball. The game doesn't give this info at draft time therefore it is totally unrealistic which = flawed.

Thanks Rch -- Yeah, that point has definitely been raised. It's dumb that it's random and there's no indication, but we're trying to work with the cards we're dealt and make sense of it.
Still wondering the frequency of this storyline. Is it somewhat often? Any way to know? If so, we're gonna houserule it out of the league. |

Colin Kaepernick is one. I've seen enough memes of "Gets drafted by Cubs... Quits baseball for football... Leads team to Super Bowl"

John Elway and Dan Marino were drafted and ended up playing football. Randy Poffo was a minor leaguer for the Cardinals.. You may or may not know him better as Randy Savage.. It does happen where a player will switch to another sport.. It just tends to be when they're in the minors. |

The issue is the realism of a genuine prospect a high pick who signs to play baseball then out of the blue quits to play another sport. No baseball team would waste a high pick unless they had some assurances. Kaepernick is an example of what actually happens IRL. That's why this storyline is flawed.

Chad Hutchinson, Drew Henson, and Brandon Weeden are three players who left baseball for football in the last decade or so.

Oh and Russell Wilson was the 19th best prospect in the Colorado Rockies' system, according to BA, just before he quit baseball to become an NFL quarterback.

I think the idea was good prospects who are actually playing baseball. Elway played 42 games in the minors. None of these guys were a surprise were they?

There is a thread that Andreas was admonishing someone about turning off features. I think he mentioned both frequency and time (years a storyline should kick in) in the thread. He may have mentioned where to find the info, cannot remember for sure. For some reason I think (be skeptical) that I read either Lukasbugershmagenburgen (cannot spell his screen name, it always reminds me of the chef form the Muppets) or Bowtie mention where you can get the info. Be very skeptical of this advice. I could be totally wrong. Just trying to be helpful.

This storyline should be more common for low minor leaguers not established MLers. I had a 3 time AS quit to play football. At 5'6 165 lbs what position was he going to play? Kickers aren't even that small.
