I agree. Wasn't the reason for leaving it on in 13 (at least in the MLB quickstart) so that the Astros moved to the AL after the season? If that was the case, there's no reason it should be left on now.

Yep. League Evolution is Satan's tool, unless you want a completely, 100% true-to-life historical sim. For any sort of "what if" scenario - non-real-life expansion teams or franchise moves, for instance - turn it off the day you start your setup. I had a 1888 league fouled up early in my OOTP career because of it. Thankfully, I'd only played one season, but still, it was annoying.

Agreed. It's something that should definitely be opt-in.

That, and there is so much more that could be done to make the feature more interesting and feel more realistic. (Right now the changes seem very arbitrary, and do not feel like changes being driven by what's happening within the league, which is how changes happen in real-world leagues.)

I like the feature with some pretty large caveats:

(1) it ain't for everyone.

(2) some of the changes are just silly - within a four-year period, my DL length went from 15 to 17 to 24 days.

(3) I'd love to have the changes be subject to a yes/no accept/do not accept option for playability sake.

(4) I agree that some sort of cause/effect relationship would seem less arbitrary:

- record offensive year (league-wide or by a single player - think a 10% increase in scoring or an 80 HR season, for instance) should result in a greater chance of an offense-dampening change (i.e. adoption of a deader ball, raise the mound, legalize the spitball, etc.)

- a bunch of franchises end up in the red should result in a greater chance of owner-friendly financial system changes (i.e. longer arbitration periods, lower salary cap, lower slot bonuses in draft, etc.)

- a dynasty should result in application of the draft to international players, or a more robust Rule 5 draft, or something else designed to induce parity

Not all of these suggestions are workable, of course, but it would improve the sim.

I've pointed out that sort of thing before. The DL length has changed in real life, but with larger jumps. The different lengths of the short-term DL in MLB over the years: 10, 15, 21, and 30 days (the long-term DL has always been 60 days). To the foregoing we could probably add 7 days, as that is the length of the concussion DL as well as the current minor league short-term DL length.

I'd suggest the DL should use one of these lengths, and then only move one value up or down when changing. (The changes should also be infrequent.)

League evolution must be on by default in a historical league otherwise you will be stuck with the St Louis Browns unto 2013.

I keep league evolution on for my MLB leagues. I am waiting for someone to move or to have expansion so I can make some alignment changes. In my original EBL vs MLB league the Rays and Dbacks never existed. I moved the Giants from SF to Tampa to Arizona. I want to move Oakland to San Jose. I would undo the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Rangers, Blue Jays and a few other teams if they were to move. In 2016 i am moving the Astros back to the NL and moving either Milwaukee or Pittsburgh to the AL

In historical leagues clubs will relocate to their new cities as history dictates. League evolution has nothing to do with that. The feature was originally intended for use with fictional leagues, not historical leagues nor the current-day MLB league.

Amen to that!

Unless they moved to Oakville and were called the Oakville Posh.....I would be ok with that.

I leave som of it on, but DL lenght, Teams names and location stay put. I want control over that.

This sounds dangerous I think I'll give it a try. I've been playing for three years now and have always turned that one the other way.

I only play solo leagues, and I LOVE league evolution, even though sometimes it's screwed me over.

This, with emphasis.

At least it's not the "Columbus Colonels".
