Franchise Venue/Name Change

Playing my 2nd season, Tampa Bay Rays "Moved" to Jacksonville and are now the Jacksonville Bucs.... that sort of sucks if you ask me... is this based on something that's already in the works IRL? Is there a way to revert/stop these things from happening?

No.

It's the result of the dynamic changes option.

It can be turned off.

Do you leave it on? I suppose it makes things interesting when playing 10-20 seasons.... But I would hate The Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers etc to change names or venues...

You can disable relocation and nickname changes and leave everything else on if you want.

It's based on you leaving "league evolution" on when you set up your game. I really wish the default was for "league evolution" to be off. It's a great feature, but it sure does blindside a lot of users.

I generally turn it off. But it can be cool to have it on too.

Yup good idea, I'm going to do that... I just wish there was a way to bring back the Rays!

Turn on commishioner mode and go to the team screen. Then rename them and change the city back to Tampa Bay. Voila! The Rays are back!

Wouldn't that mess the players history or anything I'm not thinking on the DB?

Nah, it's fine. You'd mess up the histories or db only if you were to change the id, which the game won't let you do anyway.

Can anyone tell me where the Tampa Bay logo is? I can only find the Tampa Rays... is it under a different name on Logos?

Edit: Never mind... their logo is Rays... for some reason I had it as TB instead of Rays

I like league evolution, but I admit that I might overrule it if the Jays were to move.

I would certainly edit the team name. I believe in history.

The Jacksonville Rays sound fine to me...

Yeah I can see the appeal to it, however I'll enable it 10-12 seasons down the line... it almost seems surreal that any of these rules would change... imagine if they take the DH from the american league, what do I do with Tex or Arod

I'm the same way. When I use league evolution, I reserve the right to play "god" and adjust any changes the game makes.

fair enough... but looking at all these options I have a feeling I would be reversing all these changes, in which case I'll either play "God" as you put it to make the changes I want myself or enable them when I'm bored, either way, I love the fact that we can change it on the fly.

It's all in how you want to play. That's the beauty of OOTP, we can customize things to our liking.

I like the evolution. It screws me over regularly, but it makes for some interesting games. Currently my game the AL dropped the DH and the roster size is 24 instead of 25. Maybe some other options (I think they changed an arbitration rule along the way), but in general, it hasn't been a lot of changes overall. I'll probably play one more season, and if the game doesn't expand the league, I'll do it myself.

League evolution should be off by default. Sudden and unanticipated changes that occur for a new user who may have spent time building a league are ridiculous. At very least put in a WARNING at league creation.
