The way I see it, there are two approaches one could take.
One would be to combine the databases into one and run it as a single league. Since you're limited to two subleagues, you'd have to get creative about how to align the teams. For instance, you could have the AL and NL in one subleague, as divisions, and the PCL in its own subleague, and set up some kind of playoff structure based on that. The other option is to keep the leagues separate. This might be more historically accurate in terms of structure. You'd have the two separate databases, and you'd have to edit them so that guys who start in the PCL are only in the PCL database, whereas guys who start in the MLB are only in the MLB database, and allow free agents (maybe trades too?) between the leagues. I'm a fan of alternate reality scenarios, so I could envision having something more like the first scenario above, with fictional but theoretically viable expansion over time.

Really? Cool. I didn't realize that. I haven't even looked at the final product yet (obviously).

Has anyone done a quickstart of the PCL yet? I'm interested to play this, but frankly a little overwhelmed by how to make it work. I posted the same question over in the Historical League forum.
I'm interested in a PCL-only version and in playing with the new database alongside the ML. I don't care that players are on their real teams, but I'm confused about how to avoid double players, etc. |

Just wondering if there was any update on this pretty cool-sounding project... Thanks

Was there a final release for this database? There isn't one posted on OOTPMods.com.
I had downloaded the quickstart Henry had made but noticed there were only a couple players listed/rated as outfielders (1903?).

Pep, I have the original files of the db, but OOTP makes it so hard to use, there's a long list of instructions needed in order to utilize it.
It'd be nice if OOTP allowed the PCL as one of the add on leagues which would make using it much easier. |

Roger that. We can all dream that someday... Again, let me offer my gratitude to you for working on this. I hope your efforts will lead to changing OOTP in order for these sorts of things to work.

For the record, I have put all of this together with the best set of instructions that I can put together and sent it to the OOTPMods site administrator.

Hey Guys, I just found this mod on OOTPMODS. Is it compatible with OOTP 14? If not would the be someone out there that would try to make it compatible. I am really excited about trying this out, because I just finished reading Bill O'Neals book "The Pacific Coast League 1903-1988".
Thanks in advance, Dave |

I had downloaded this database mod some time ago and never tried it...
After seeing your post, I decided to give this a try... It took me most of the day to work out some kinks, that were mostly on my side of the fence... I was trying to add to an existing league and couldn't get certain things to work correctly... I finally started a new league and added the PCL as described in the readme file included with the database... It looks like I may have it working now... I think I've got everything ironed out and in place now.. I completed the setup and will start the league tomorrow and see how it goes... I'll post something in a couple of days to let you know my results... |

I tried using the PCL along side a MLB starting in 1920 and the game went along fine till the season one ended and it was time to import the rookies... It would not import the players automatically for the PCL but would for the MLB... I had both set to different paths for their respective databases... I can make a text file for the PCL for each year and manually import rookies each year after the seasons ends, not a big deal... I am going to play with this a little more and see if I can get the two to work together... Its probably something I screwed up...
In the mean time I made up just the PCL starting in 1903 and still having the same problem with it importing the rookies each year automatically... So I am again importing them manually by making a text file with their player id's and their starting year and this seems to be working... There are some duplicate players in the PCL database... Looks like they played on different teams the same year... I am in my second year in the PCL stand alone league and all seems good except for the auto import of rookies... I know these guys worked hard on this and it is a really neat setup if you can get it to work... I'll keep trying on the MLB-PCL and playing the stand alone PCL... |

TXRanger, I am too having the same problem with the PCL not importing. I started in 1903 (with the same duplicates, but I can live with that), but I couldn't figure out how to import with a list. Specifically, what format does it need to be in. I really appreciate, the help on this.

Open up the Master file in the PCL database and sort your players by their debut year ie. 1904 for your first year of free agents or draftees whichever you prefer to call them... Then copy all of the 1904 or whatever year you want to import player(s) id(s) and paste them into a blank text document like in Notepad or Notepad++ ,(You can probably do this in Excel too???), then after each name add a comma then the debut year...
Example: AnderBa41,1904 Then save this as a text file with a .txt extension and your good to import this list of players... Then when you are in the Free Agents page look at the bottom and click on Import Historical Players I think is how it reads, Select your PCL database Master file, then enter your season year to import ie. 1904, click here to select text file, then direct the game to your saved text file, then click Import Player and it should import your players from that year... I attached the text file I made for the 1904 Players from the PCL Master file for you to use or to see how to make your own... hope this explains it well enough... |

Txranger,
Did you ever figure out how to get the PCL database to import the players automatically every year? I am doing it the manual way and will continue to but it is time consuming. Rainers |
