Would you recommend the same proposal to Steam?

That's a bad business model. The concept of this promotion is to generate unit sales mid cycle. I'm not dismissing your concern but feel it's misplaced in this niche.

A flat discount creates no incentive for fence sitters. This should. Taking a longer view if this generates more sales now and some repeat sales next year we all benefit as Markus may improve the pre-order discount.

Times are tough for all business, I think it reasonable to give Markus the benefit of the doubt.

No worries, feel however you want.

I just don't understand I guess.. we pay what we pay because we want it on release day.. Markus is free to discount the game to whatever he deems fit and whenever he sees fit.

Just bought ver 14 and am wondering about one thing. Tax was added which I thought strange since it's never added for me on an internet sale unless the company has a brick and mortar presence in Washington state, like Amazon or Walmart. I doubt if OOTP does, so why the tax?

Does eSellerate have a physical presence in WA, perhaps?

I just bought a copy for my newer laptop so I can OOTP while my other computer is busy OOTPing. :yodawgIhearyoulikeOOTP:

I hadn't thought about that and just checked. It doesn't say. Curious.

Just looked closer. It says offices across the US. I used to pay tax with Matrix Games until they changed. Probably the same company somehow. Oh, well.

That's not a good business model. Ask Steam or Gamersgate.

I think various states charge tax now based on your IP address and/or the business location. I never used to pay any tax when ordering from the US now I do. Not every time but enough to notice.

If you live in a state that has a sales tax and the business has a physical location in your state, you pay the tax. Otherwise no.

I just purchased at the discounted price. Thanks Markus and crew for making this discount available! I hadn't updated since version 12 so I'm excited to see all the changes since then.

Since when is 5 of 40 8% (or 9%)?

Yeah, math is fun, as is accuracy. My brain was a little off this morning. 12.5%.

We really are thankful for everyone who pre-orders, since this is the group of people that get us through the dry winter months financially. And as a bonus, they get the game three days early and have a good chance to win one of our pre-order prices, I personally think that is a fair deal for everyone involved.

I happen to disagree. That doesn't mean I'm losing any sleep over this. Only that I feel that a 50% discount is drastic compared to the pre-order discount. My opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.

You pay a premium for time, it's as simple as that. The people ordering now haven't gotten to play the game beforehand, or else they're like me and "only" had the game installed on one of their devices. It could be worse: there's a Reuters product that provides the latest information on some sort of consumer confidence index number 2 seconds before it's publicly released, and people pay thousands of dollars for this.

Otherwise, I hate to sound callous but if you think these deals are too good, don't buy the game over the winter, wait until July. I know of people who do this, and who even add the virtue of not having to deal with a couple of early buggy versions (not that that was a real issue this year, but it's been one in the past for sure). Personally, I consider that I've already played well over $20 worth of OOTP since it came out, so for me it's still a fantastic deal.

TL;DR: don't look at this as a fairness issue because it's not, it's a business issue.

Exactly! The man HAS TO RUN A BUSINESS in order to keep producing the product that we enjoy. I'm not blowing smoke up his rear end when I agree with him. I agree with him as a fellow business man (as well as a satisfied customer). What he is selling, when he is selling it, and the price for which he is selling it at the time (early in the product cycle, these last few versions) is suitable to me.

So nobody should ever be able to buy the game for less than what you paid for it? Right.

Thumbs up

Seriously, I have been holding off buying OOTP14, because my business has been slow ... with many changes in my life, the Games has been my sanity to keep me staying positive ... when Markus released this awesome deal, I didn't hesitate ... so in all fairness, his 50% deal is Godsend in my neck of the woods ... Thank you, Markus ... and Thats Baseball !!!
