OOTP World Cups
While never coming out and making a fully functional World Cup or World Baseball Classic feature, Markus and the team's other improvements have gotten the game to the point where I'm having more fun than I've ever had running a World Cup.
-The new national origin settings are key as I have all kinds of different leagues across the globe and want them to produce precise amounts of players from countries, now this is reasonably easy to do. -the ability to change baseball quality for nations and the sabermetric PCM's allow me to tweak the quality of player a nation produces -the ability to easily export rosters to a new game where I can set up the 32 teams in the World Cup after following my World of Baseball for 5 years to get to know the big names and superstars -the ability in the new game to set up 32 teams with no foreigners and just sim to opening day and they will sign all the players from their nation -and by far most importantly is Real Time Simulation. With 16 games going on each day, I can start out watching South Korea and Japan battle for the 1 seed out of group 3, then when that finishes switch over to Colombia/Mexico who are fighting for the final spot to the knockout rounds then see if Ivory Coast can upset Iran to end the day. Each day is an addictive experience that is more fun than anything else I've ever done in OOTP. So thanks OOTP team, not just for a great game this year but the constant improvements you make every year! And if anyone is thinking about making a World Cup style competition with their global leagues it's absolutely worth it, so much fun. Ask me any questions if you are having trouble. And the current group standings (4 series out of 7 into the group stage, 4 from each group move along):

Do you have a template or quickstart with your setup? I'd love to get a hold of that.

You should make a quick-start of this league. I would play the hell out of it.

It's all fictional players, one of the reasons it's so awesome for me is I recognize a good amount of the players and can check out their background. I don't know if that turns anyone off.
Cuba and Puerto Rico aren't there as in the universe all these players come from, nation quality and league size is determined mainly by how many overall professional players from any sport the nation has currently (why Spain and Germany are good and Dominican isn't). They were close though and when the universe expands (currently Caribbean is only a 4-team league) they will have enough players. and I'm not exactly sure how to do so, if I'm already 12 games into the season can I still save it as a template? |

yes, I figure I'll have to do a new game every 3 years (when I want to run it) to get the updated ratings and new players and the stats won't be cumulative for each World Cup but that's something I can deal with to get the context that these are players for their clubs coming together to play for their nation.

after I finish it, I guess I'll simulate to preseason of next season and save it. though this may screw with some things (players retiring, aging, etc) it seems to be the best option |

For the stats, you could maybe add up and save in a text file the major stats. Maybe create a save to place all those players with the WC stats and save them as baseball cards. Bit of work, though. |

-started a new game and imported World of Baseball (which brought in all my different leagues), then imported rosters (which brought in all the players). -released players in every league to free agent pool then deleted all the leagues -created the World Cup league you see above and set financials high enough there would be no problem, set each team to have no foreigners -simulated to Opening Day and checked free agency, only a few high-profile players left (from USA and China and big countries which was fine with me). It's really cool because, for example I noticed Nigeria had this 3B who was mashing and I wanted to see how he was doing in club play and what league he played for and it's all there when you click on him. ![]() he plays for Algiers Fennec Foxes and slugs there too. I plan on trying something like that, exporting the stats then trying to match the stats. at the least I will keep by hand World Cup records vs teams, all-time standings, top 10 players each year, and a few other things. |

Just one of many possible ways to utilize the behemoth WOB universe. Excellent work!

So this got me thinking... is their a way to make a league like this where every team is based in a different country, but so only players from that country can play for the team? I know I'd have to turn trading off, and probably the draft.
Edit: I figured out how. Now just working out the logistics of getting new players every year. Last edited by Cornfed; 04-17-2013 at 10:05 PM. Reason: Answered my own question. |

I'd think you still would need a draft. the problem comes when teams based in Brazil, for example, take a star player from China and just stick them on the reserve roster for years. You will see a 5-star player who is 33 that only has like 60 career AB. Reserve rosters have no limits on nationality which can gum things up somewhat. I don't know if setting it to 0 will keep them from drafting foreigners though, let me know how it works out |

So obviously I'm doing something wrong just not sure what it is yet. I'm going to delete the league, and start over doing advanced options and hopefully that fixes the problem with getting the teams filled to start with. I still have no clue how to get new players every year without them being FA and that seems counterproductive to me. |
