Time line of oopt versions.

My kids purchased OOPT14 for my birthday, which got me thinking how long I have been playing OOPT. My question is what is the timeline for all the different versions?

There's some good info on the wiki page about the history of ootp.

But here's the timeline from the info I could find. If any of the dates are wrong feel free to correct me.

Code:
OOTP 1 - May 1999
OOTP 2 - 2000?
OOTP 3 - 2001
OOTP 4 - 2002?
OOTP 5 - 2003
OOTP 6 - 2004
OOTP 6.5 - 2005 (expansion pack)
OOTP 2006 - May 2006
OOTP 2007 - March 2007
OOTP 8 - December 2007
OOTP 9 - June 2008
OOTP 10 - June 2009
OOTP 11 - April 2010
iOOTP - May 2011
OOTP 12 - June 2011
OOTP 13 - April 2012

I'm pretty sure they came out yearly until 6/6.5 took a year and a half and then Markus took a full year off before moving to SI.

I'm pretty sure ootp4 was 2002 sometime. That was my first version and I joined the forum a few months later after buying it. I remember holding out for the new version instead of buying version 3.

Thanks, I fixed what I posted. ootp4 must have been 2002 and ootp5 2003.

history

I started with OOTP3 and have had every version since. Wish I had a history of my own of how many on line leagues I have been in.

I remember ootp 6 and upgrading to 6.5 but as I joined the forums in 2003 I must have had ootp 4 or 5 as well but, heck! That's a lot of beer down the throat to remember that far back

Obi-Wan Kenobi? Obi-Wan. Now there's a name I've not heard in a long, long time. A long time.

Started with ootp 2. Was unhappy with triple play and high heat graphics was good for the time but wanted something like microsports pro league baseball and APBA baseball for windows. Tried baseball mogul but just liked ootp better. Wish I could find a game for football to replace microsports pro league football.
I remember upgrading to a whopping 1mb of memory to play that and Earl Weaver II.
All in all I suppose I've spent at least $500 on ootp. It would be nice to have just discovered ootp but I don't regret helping to support the game each year. Don't know of any other game I've bought 10 years in a row.

We have OOTP for Baseball, and FM for Soccer, we do need something for Football I dare say.

I had a basketball one, don't remember what it was called, not very good. But that is to be expected really, because the NBA does not really have the most team building friendly transaction rules. Front Office Football was way back when....that was alright I suppose. Hockey.....no thanks. Football would be fun though. A good sim of the NFL, and salary caps, and a good draft day trading AI, that would be fun.

And yes, I do call soccer football, but not for this post, as I didnt want to create confusion.

I agree, a management game for American Football would be cool. I'd want to be able to design my own plays though, a la Playmaker Football.

I'd just be happy with a good American football management sim. Madden NFL 2008 on the PC was the best version to ever come out, and it still wasn't that captivating. I also tried some NBA management sim that someone has out about a year ago, I think it's on version 3 now and it was an absolute mess. Unhandled Exceptions galore, and the base game wasn't hardly any better than the NBA 2k series.

OOTP really is the gold standard. I'd kill for an Out of the Endzone Football game.

It's old, but have you tried Front Office Football?

What a trip down memory lane!

I played Tony Larussa baseball for many years (was the best computer baseball game of its time in my opinion) and I think the last version was around 97-98. I found OOTP 1 from someone posting on a forum (was an old tony larussa baseball forum someone had started) and so I tried it out. Wasn't thrilled at first but it grew on me especially as the new versions came out and the game just kept getting better.

I really enjoyed the "6.51 era" and thought it was the golden age of baseball simming at the time!! I was very resistant to the OOTP 2006 version but eventually came along for the ride.

Now I can say without question OOTP 13 has been the best version yet and the golden age of baseball simming has returned!!! I can not wait to see it go to an even higher level with OOTP 14.

I started my main league on OOTP2 (added a bunch of other leagues to the universe when that became possible in 2006), but hand-imported it from Earl Weaver II with the help of a lot of Excel spreadsheets, which I had imported from Earl I, which I imported from Pure-Stat Baseball on my old C64 in 1988.

So forgive me, yes, I occasionally take opportunities like this to brag that my fictional Continental League has been continuously operating for 25+ real life years.
