New Development Model

I'll be curious to test out the new development and ageing modifiers in ootp 14. I know they said they made adjustments to the development and ageing in 14 if I'm not mistaken. Will be interesting to see if the defaults give a realistic modern day age spectrum for MLB careers. This was definitely an overhaul that was long overdue.

I hope they work better out of the box too. That's one thing I don't like about upgrading is always trying to set these modifiers. These should be set at default to reflect MLB development in a fairly accurate manner.

Development and aging IRL is not static either by year or by groups of years. It doesn't work in a vacuum. It is influenced by factors such as finance and injuries and draft class quality over several seasons. By definition player development and aging is based on past trends and is not a always a predictor of future real life trends.

I'm amazed at how close Markus gets it FWIW.

Exactly.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

The last sim I was doing, I've got to say that the default aging modifiers worked pretty damn well. I'm still looking forward to the way the game's handling fielding and aging, but it actually wasn't bad at all after the final patch for 13.

To be fair to the developers it seems like they are finally taking steps to address this problem with a whole new engine. Not sure exactly how it will work or what it will be, but on the new features list there's a new development engine and it seems like guys will have more consistent development patterns in the minors and throughout their career. (don't quote me on that though). If whatever they are doing allows more of a chance of good hitters being serviceable till their early 30s, as a decent amount should, and a more real life aging spectrum in the MLB then I am all for it.

Again to be fair, I consider OOTP to be close to perfect in many regards, but this is, and if addressed now, was, the only thing holding it back.
