Help our MetaCritic user rating

We're getting slammed in the user ratings area of the OOTP 13 page on MetaCritic, so if folks don't mind stopping by and helping boost our 3.4 average score, we would greatly appreciate it. Not sure where all the hate is coming from, aside from the two people who wrote reviews and slammed our lack of a graphics engine.

It's weird, unlike movies where I trust the opinions of regular people more than the opinions of critics, it's the opposite with games.

I read comments about no graphics and I think to myself that it's like complaining that pick-one-of-your-favourite-games isn't more like Pokemon. Umm, okay. You do know OOTP is a management sim, right? If you want graphics that badly, then play MLB: the Show. Yeah, some graphics would be great, but to sacrifice the excellence of OOTP to play something mediocre at best simply because it has some 2D graphics is silliness. To compare it to FM, okay, but if managing a soccer team isn't your thing then it's pointless.

The game review industry is quite frankly awful and I would basically never trust the opinions of professional reviewers on games; although OOTP falls into a niche where the only places that bother to review it are probably going to be fair in their review.

I also play some RPGs, and in that genre AAA titles basically always get good reviews even if they're really bad (you may not be familiar with the game Dragon Age II, but it is the perfect example of this phenomenon). Also, we now know that developers are sometimes compensated based on the metacritic score they achieve as part of their industry deals. This happened with Obsidian, who were 1 point short of achieving the required metacritic score to get a bonus on their deal for Fallout: New Vegas (which was actually a good game).

To be honest it looks like in this case there were not many user reviews of the game and the average rating was trashed by a few biased people who decided to rate OOTP a 0. The score is up to 6.2 now.

Oh, that's true. I was more thinking overall ratings like the score you'll see on IMDB for a movie versus the user rating score you'll see on metacritic for a game. That difference is probably largely one of sample size though. If metacritic had 1000s of people rating games their scores might be just as reliable to me as IMDB's movie ratings are. Metacritic's overall user rating for games are completely worthless to me though while at least with IMDB if it's a 6.0 or above and a genre I know I usually dig then I'll give it a shot.

But no, I do believe you're right that a lot of game reviewers are influenced in some way or another. That said, I do believe that if a game averages about a 9 from dozens of reviewers then chances are that it is pretty good whereas if it averages about a 5 or lower then it's probably not worth your time. Anywhere from a 6 to an 8 though you might be very pleasantly surprised.

Movie critics in general though? Forget it. You might find the odd one that you can rely on, but in general I find them way too snobbish.

Yea that was a load of crap.i mean u have to do it right so y would ootp just throw out something just to please the few when they can wait a yr or two or three to save the money needed to bring in a great guy yo do the graphic engine stuff we all want i mean with that u have to be on the money the first time to show the people it works and it will get better each version
