Speaking of terrible ESPN personalities. Jim Rome and David Stern had a argument on Rome's radio show.

Rome asked Stern if the Draft Lottery is rigged and Stern responded by asking Rome if he had stopped beating his wife

Yep, Freddie Coleman usually does the late night stuff. I like him, too. I wish Jason Smith was still there, but he is on the NFL Network now.

I'm not a Stern fan, but anyone who pounds Rome is ok in my book at that particular moment.

It went more like this. Rome asked Stern if there is a CHANCE the NBA Draft is rigged.

Stern said that that is a loaded a question. How does one answer that? If I say no, I am lying because of course there is a chance, if I say yes, that there is a chance then you hear I just said yes and that the draft is fixed. It would be like me asking, "Have you stopped beating your wife?"

If you answer yes, that means you beat her in the past, if you answer no, it means you are still beating her.

I would have to think of any of the four major sports commissioners only Stern would have the balls to actually say that.

But that is pretty bush league of Rome's part. I know he is the sports equivalent of a radio shock jock and doesn't have an ounce of credibility, but having a guest on and then attacking the very core of his sport is beyond the pale.
And since people do bet on basketball, he was asking if Stern in a round about way was committing a crime.

I am no way a fan of Jim Rome's but I do not see how the question was out of bounds. People were talking about it. I work at the Palace of Auburn Hills and 15 minutes after hearing the lottery results we all were like "man they are going to have some questions to answer about that"

People were talking about the question. Other than the typical finals chatter it probably was the question most people wanted asked above all else and I'm glad someone had the ball's to ask it.

Me personally do I think the lottery or anything in the NBA is rigged? No.

But out of the 4 major sports if it ever came out one of them wasn't totally on the up and up and the league office influenced some things the NBA far and away would be my first choice.

Back to the original topic can't beleive I didn't mention liking SVP. Love him.

I haven't watched more than about 5 minutes of ESPN in years.

When I want baseball news I go the MLB Network. When I want football news I go to NFL Network. I enjoy the hockey coverage on NBCSN. I don't watch the NBA so, I guess that's all I really need TV wise in sports.

Most of my sports news I get from print media, internet, and/or radio.

It was the way the question was laid out. There was no way of answering it. Either Stern had to lie or he had to tell the truth and Rome would have a quote he could take out of context.

That was all Stern was saying. If Rome had asked, "Have you fixed the draft?" Stern could answer no and move on. Instead Rome went with the loaded question.

This is getting a little OT, but I figure I'll add my before moving on. David Stern is a commish whose better decision-making years are well beyond him. He's a petulant child who runs the NBA like a dictator instead of a commish, and I can't wait till he's gone. Instead of people being focused on Game 2 in between the games, people instead were talking about "OMG, can you believe a commissioner of one of the Big Three leagues said that to an interviewer?"

Granted, it was Jim Rome (who works for CBS Sports now, not ESPN) doing the interview, but still was way out of line.

dola,

ESPN will definitely become a lot more unwatchable for me if Erin Andrews doesn't come back. Her contract is running out soon

She offers nothing of value to a broadcast. The Keyhole dancer is horrible.

Around the Horn is complete garbage. That started the whole trend of putting sportswriters on TV, and those guys just ham it up, yell and prove that they don't know any more about the game than we do. Woody Paige is functionally ******ed, and I will never forgive ESPN for allowing that program to give Jay Marriotti a soapbox for as long as it did.

The Sports Reporters actually spawned the trend of sportswriters on TV. It led to PTI, which in turn led to ATH, DLHQ, etc.

Fair enough ... however, Sports Reporters didn't attempt to turn it into a game of one-upsmanship.

That's not a term I use often, and I'm certainly not using it as a pejorative. When it comes to Woody Paige, I really do think there is something scrambled up there.

ESPN is a joke. The staff they currently have is poor at best. They have decent columnists though on the site. I spend more time reading articles than I do watching highlights and that joke of a network.
