Granted this is a bit of a pain and really only works for people who play solo games and sim on a daily basis. (it usually will take me 2-3 weeks to get through a typical season). But do you think by going in before the season started and tracking what each teams market size, fan loyalty and interest was and then using that to manually correct any storylines that could potentially destroy it. I would just lean towards disabling them but I do really enjoy the idea of having new owners coming into the game etc.

I had like six owners die the first two months of the 2012 season. No thanks.

I have had good arguments with others over my claim that he was THE best President ever, but I have yet to see anyone put forth a quality argument that he was not a good President. I will not drag this thread OT any further with this, but if had thoughts of engaging in the argument that Theodore Roosevelt was not a good President, just check yourself, because you would lose that argument, and lose it hard.

Btw I've done a good amount of research on TR and in my opinion he's way over rated, while I respect him as a man and his intestinal fortitude I disagree with his view on what government should be or do. Thats my statement, I won't argue it with you cras as your much much to full of yourself and your views... in my opinion anyway. Anyone with a bit of reading apprehension can get a whiff of that just by reading your last post.

Teddy Roosevelt's son, Brigadier General Theodore Roosevelt, Junior, was the hero of Utah Beach during the Normandy invasion, personally leading Anerican forces off the beach on foot with only a pistol and while using a cane, thereby winning the Medal of Honor and the admiration of all who saw him do it. General George Patton, who didn't like him, later said that TR Jr. was the bravest soldier he had ever seen. General of the Army Omar Bradley, who had once fired TR Jr., was asked years later to define courage. His answer was, "Theodore Roosevelt on Utah Beach."
This is his Medal of Honor citation: "For gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty on 6 June 1944, in France. After two verbal requests to accompany the leading assault elements in the Normandy invasion had been denied, Brigadier General Roosevelt's written request for this mission was approved and he landed with the first wave of the forces assaulting the enemy-held beaches. He repeatedly led groups from the beach, over the seawall and established them inland. His valor, courage, and presence in the very front of the attack and his complete unconcern at being under heavy fire inspired the troops to heights of enthusiasm and self-sacrifice. Although the enemy had the beach under constant direct fire, Brig. Gen. Roosevelt moved from one locality to another, rallying men around him, directed and personally led them against the enemy. Under his seasoned, precise, calm, and unfaltering leadership, assault troops reduced beach strong points and rapidly moved inland with minimum casualties. He thus contributed substantially to the successful establishment of the beachhead in France." The only general officer with the balls to land with the first wave on the beach, Roosevelt was an incredible 57 years old that day. He suffered so badly from arthritis that he could only walk with the aid of a cane and from a heart condition so severe that it killed him a month later. None of that stopped him. Heroism can be genetic.

Bully! This TR discussion is keeping this thread afloat, by golly! What we need is a storyline about how the old trustbuster comes back to life and deals with collusion among baseball owners!

Thanks for this thread, by the way. I had storylines enabled because I had no idea what they were. After seeing the first few posts in this thread I couldn't turn them off fast enough.
My fault, really - ten years with OOTP should have taught me that new features are always poorly thought out and poorly implemented, so you're better off waiting a couple versions until they're "tested and ready," as it were.

I'm trying to think of a major new feature that was awesome just as it was when it first appeared. I'm sure there was one, I just don't remember it.
Sometimes I think of the period from OOTP 2006 to OOTP 13 as just one long beta test.

Would owners who die, step aside, or sell the team without storylines enabled really be drastically different from the previous ones though? I remember playing in previous versions where new owners would come in but would mostly be the same personality. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks

I like them in theory, but not hard coded and like coaches and scouts, never use them.

Owners dying has absolutely nothing to do with storylines. If you want to condemn a feature, you might want to at least figure out what it is first.
As for the rest of this thread, well it reminds me of why I never come to the General forum. Half the posts are dismissively patronizing replies that aren't clever and aren't funny. Those of you posting that stuff are not as superior to the rest of the world as you seem to think you are. And how do I know that? Because you spend your time thinking up insulting one liners to say to people on the internet. A couple of other things: That quote about "a man who will see gray once will see gray all the time" is from a freaking novel. Roosevelt didn't say it, unless fictional Roosevelts count. No wonder, because it's a really stupid quote (unless it's meant ironically, like my insulting one liners quip above). And it's hard to be a 'badass' when they name Teddy bears after you. |

For people who play the game solo and sim on a daily basis the simple solution, although some what of a pain, would just be to track the actual market size rating, I believe it's 1-20? may be 1-10 though not sure, for each team before the season starts. If there is some sort of story that comes along and crashes a team's market size just go back and readjust it yourself to what it was previously. While a bit of a pain I really don't see it as that much of a burden for the way I play. For people who sim blocks of games I understand though. |
