You might want to ask Sandman how he he gets such fast sim-time. That might help. I think that 12 was, unfortunately, a better game than 13.

I disagree. I think ootp13 is way better than ootp12. I just gotta find a game that will keep me interested.

I agree with damien here, I sometimes work for hours even days on a league then when it comes to pushing the button I go nah and delete it. Also agree with RchW just switch it off and don't touch or think about OOTP for a few days or weeks.

Or you could go the crazy route that I went once and that was when I was out I'd see a guy and think, hmmm wonder if he would make a good 1B or 3B and I'd input him into my league. Then if I ever saw him again I'd be like "you do know your hitting .209 ya bum, that however is for the people who have no life and are way into their OOTP more than what a sane person should be

I was getting tired of the MLB rosters after 22 seasons so I switched to the Japanese Nippon League and it renewed my interest. I picked the Ham Fighers which were no where near the top and that was a great experience.

Good luck finding something!

This is probably the lamest/weirdest way to play OOTP. But strictly sim and actually "support" a team and just follow them along (especially in RTS mode). It provides the excitement of watching the live scores of real baseball but in my own fictional universe.

My league has 112 years of history, so whilst the game's are playing out I'm looking at past match-ups and what not. Checking out streaks and records and watching to see if players reach/break them.

Another thing I do is do a quick summary of each game in my top league. Only one or two sentences of important and interesting things that happened during the game.

For example, here is what I just wrote for a game: "Kings move above .500: Lars-Erik Wetterstrum notched his second consecutive win, Crister Egerman got his 38th consecutive save, and the Grenada Kings won their fourth straight. Helmer Hjelm and Stephen Crittall had given the Kings an early lead before Veijo Schulden's 2-run single tied the scores after 5. Ale Allison's 2-out homer in the 6th proved the winning run as Dyce remain firmly in place at the wrong end of the standings."

Little things like that allow me to get immersed in my fictional world.

Yes, that's what I meant. You follow the Twins from opening day 1961 using real lineups and real transactions. You can adjust the lineups before the game starts if you wish, and you control the pitching changes, game strategy, etc. You will be forced by the real lineup/transactions to see and experience the real Twins players. You won't be able to junk Frank Quilici just because he can't hit, but you can play Bernie Allen more.

I hadn't played as a 'manager' for a couple of versions of OTTP and tried it again becoming a minor league manager in the South Atlantic League with the Delmarva Shorebirds.

Might be worth a try, instead of playing as GM, play as manager where another GM deals you the cards to manage with.

After reading Orcin's dynasty report (just the first page so far), that has really sparked an interest in setting up a new fictional league. Thinking like 24-28 team league to start based in the US.

I found something like this works very well for getting to know your fictional league. It might do very well for keeping you into your historical. Write a one sentence recap of each game (or each series or each week). Something that encourages you to keep your attention into the sim. It'll also encourage you to poke around the league for a story to satisfy your "editor" when there's nothing obvious on the surface.

That's what I intended when I suggested a "dynasty report". Just a small recap of how the Twins are progressing to keep your interest and others. Sorry if I gave the impression to write another "Orcin's Story". I think that takes a special talent and is obviously very time consuming.

I am playing either my 96 team, 10 division Michigan League or my 100 team, 10 division Great Lakes League. One started in 1974 the other in 1984. Structurally nothing changes. I use the default settings and sim everything. I like to create history, not play out games.

I plan on doing my 1871-Now world, but I'd still like to see some more imporvements/additions to the whole associations thing before I really commit to it.

I just recently started a fictional league that I will insert myself as a player at the age of 18-19, then follow my career from player to coach to manager to GM (with only enough adjustments to make sure I don't disappear. Seeing yourself progress through the timeline adds a lot of interest and curiosity.

I've always played fictional universes. When I start to lose interest, the first thing I try is blowing the league up. Start from scratch. Move the league to Denmark, something like that. If that doesn't work, yes, I will walk away for a week or a month. As others have said, a little break really does help.

I started a dynasty in 13 for one of my fictional leagues. I write something- like a GM's Log post, or a news article, at least once every time I play. I usually play when I'm not connected to the internet, so I don't update my thread as often as I'd like, but it really helps with the immersion aspect. Another benefit to my GM Log posts, is that writing it down really helps me figure out solutions to organizational problems such as who to send back down when #4 starter comes off the DL. When I write it out as a newspaper story speculating about it, or as the GM struggling with the decision, it really comes to life.

Must agree that taking a break from time to time can help. After a couple of weeks the OOTP itch will return. Sometimes a short break is all that's needed to rekindle the interest.

You could try playing in spectator or god mode as some call it. Another idea might be to evolve your league over time. Perhaps start small and then grow it dynamically in the direction you want. With my most recent Metros fictional project I started in 1910 with six charter clubs but it will eventually evolve into an association of 4 leagues with six teams each (24 teams) by 1950. Uniform styles, logos and ballparks and even free agency will change over time, although not as much as it did in real baseball. But, it's exciting to anticipate and watch these changes take effect over time as the league builds its own dynamic and rich history. Feel free to visit my site for a little more inspiration in fictional play.

I've always played historical, but I recently had an idea to set up a fictional league that had 24 or so teams that were all based on US cities I've vacationed to or visited. And then I'd make the team names based on something either commemorative of that city, or maybe a personal trait or something that happened to me while I was there.

For instance I went to Coral Gables in FL for training once and ate at an old boxers restaurant. The wait staff reminded me of the mob, so one of my team names would be the Coral Gables Gangsters.
