Struggling To Stay Interested

I have been struggling to stay interested in any OOTP13 game that I start. Whether its MLB or fictional game, I just can't stay interested. Anyone have any tips or interesting league ideas?

When you play do you sim or play out each game? If you sim I would suggest trying to play all of your games. I find that to be much more immersing. You really get to know your players as well as your opponents players.

This time around I set up 3 different league: 1: fictional historical starting in 1900, 2: current league where I would play out every game, 3: real historical historical league starting in 1992 where I would take over the Tigers and try to turn things around quicker than 14 years. I don't usually play historical, but for what ever reason, this last league is the one that I am hooked on. It's now near the end of 1996 and I am a game and a half up in the wild card race. I have kept most settings at default except that I have the player development engine on, so it isn't too realistic and I can't always set expectations based on a player's name. As long as I stay interested I will probably play this through to current time or maybe through 2013.

I'd suggest a complete break for 2-3 weeks. Doing that a couple of times per year recharges the batteries. I stopped playing while on the road and find that my interest level remains high.

I usually make maybe 30 or 40 leagues per OOTP, and usually only 2 or 3 stick per year. Just keep trying I guess, that usually works for me.

Does the game handle that well?

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Same here.

I usually will start a league 30-40 times per year. I have one set league set up and I just restart, redraft and play again. I will get 30 or 40 seasons in and decide to start over. I sim quickly, about 1 season per hour and spend another hour with offseason stuff. So I guess I average about 1500 hours per version. During the week days I usually limit myself to 3-4 hours per day but on the weekends I usually play sunrise to sunset or later...

I usually restart the league because I get bored and if I am winning every season I start over trying different strategies. I randomize the names in my league so when I restart I have no idea who the players are from the inaugural draft. I may get bored with the game but never with the players and the statistics that each league has. So it refreshes me every time I restart.

One thing I did one season was to put myself into the game. I created a 25 year old player edited the name and made a few changes to the stats. I then played until I retired and reviewed my career and to see if I make the HOF. This kept me interested in the league for the 17 years that my player played.

I'm sorry to hear this when OOTP is such a great game.

When do you start to lose interest? First season or after multiple seasons?
Do you sim or play out each game?
What do you enjoy the most and least about the game?

I do the draft thing as opposed to assigning players to their teams...I'm surprised the A's haven't called up Higgy!

I'm not too rational when it comes to ole Higgy. Probably my least favorite Tiger of all time.

I usually lose interest after a season or two. I had a fictional game going since like 2012 and was in like 2036. I imported it from ootp12, but it got really slow and took forever to play.

I sim day by day and think like GM. Review minors weekly, fa wire, trade wire, etc.

The thing is I LOVE everything about this game.

Good idea to solicit the community for some inspiration, but the reality is usually that it's just time to walk away for a few days, weeks, whatever it takes, IMHO. The game has a certain responsibility to provide a multitude of options and avenues of interest, which it does.

If you're tired of the gameplay aspect, move to league creation, collect uniforms, or try to understand financials. Always an area to explore that may tickle an interest, but I think if you've reached the point of a public inquiry, it's either burnout or life's situation that just takes time to pass, and if you're like most of us who do reach this point now and then, you'll be back; maybe sooner than you think. FWIW

I knew buying 13 was going to put a halt (at least for a while) to the historical replay I started with 12, but I had to see what random debut was like. For the last few weeks all I have been doing is starting and stopping one league after another. Lucky for me, I'm not the type that puts a lot of work into creating logos, uniforms etc. I think I have finally settled on a league. Isn't it funny how sometimes you just know a league will stick? I started a random debut league in 1958, deleted 2 teams, moved all teams to 1 sub leaguem, three divisions and I use the International leagues 144 game schedule. My team stinks as usual.

I just wish my fictional game was faster, otherwise I would play that, but the sim speed is just unbearable.

For me, the game that has stuck for me was New Game 5 for 3 straight years (but that won't work this year, as I imported my New Game 5 from last year into 13).

Like I don't want to take a break, but I just don't know what kind of game to start. No MLB teams really spark any interest.

I remember playing Sports Illustrated Baseball back in 1970 with dice and player cards. I manually kept all my season stats and typed out the playoff box scores and team brackets. Talk about slow sim speed! I sometimes think back to those days when playing OOTP. I still have that SI game too. Good memories.
