Sorry, there will not be more animations in OOTP 13 than in OOTP 12.

I find this comment, which I've seen several times completely baffling.

So, OOTP wants to be a simulation, but yet, it fails to correctly simulate the crucial elements of the field where the game is played. It's almost as if it wanted to be a driving simulator and failed to take onto account road type and width.

Certainly this element should be much more immediate than the constant myriad of cosmetic improvements. Won't even go into historical leagues.

I've played every release since OOTP5 except OOTPX. $5 is too little a discount, $10 would entice me enough to pull the trigger. All I'm sayin'.

The logic here is baffling. You won't pre-order to save $5 but chances are you will buy the game later at full price. Markus thanks you I'm sure.

Edit: I'm basing the purchase assumption on all the online leagues listed in your sig. I'm sure at least one league will upgrade meaning you will too.

You're probably thinking of posts like this where Andreas talked about the creation of a "dynamic" world_default.xml file. That sounded like an extremely big project -- maybe that's included under "more" in the new features list.

...Just saying it is nice to get a discount at all when no developer has to offer one to begin with.

My pre-order of MLB the Show 12 won't have a discount. I think it's nicer a smaller developer even offers one.

Seriously? Are things that tight, man? Or is it just principle?

With all those leagues in your sig, I'd say you're gonna upgrade, so why not do it now rather than whine over 5 bucks?

I'll be purchasing two pre-orders simply b/c this game has given me literally more than a decade of enjoyment now and I feel bad buying at a reduced price.

In my case it would be principle. After last year's wait after pre-ordering I'd rather hold on to my money and then perhaps spend the extra five (not like they haven't offered later dicounts in the past too) if the game really is ready early April and if people are not having major issues with it.

It's an option.

On the player pages, I'm assuming that the name display is last name first. It would help to have it say "Sullivan, "Razor" Ray" with the comma.

OOTP is probably my favourite game on any platform and it is a formality that I will pre-order. It's funny, when I received it was pretty much exactly the day I was thinking "you know, I'm getting in the mood for baseball again..."

I remember reading about how there will be some simple in game graphics (like actual action graphics) upcoming. I knew it wouldn't be in 13, but think I remember it being planned for 14? Could you let me know? The game is fine and great, but even simple graphics would be a cool touch I think.

***edit***

I just saw my enquiry was put forward in a more vitriolic manner by someone else - raginhood - but yeah, never expected it for 13, but is it in the pipeline Markus?

Marcus,

You are a jerk! I had finally made up my mind to buy OOTP12 cheap and skip 13 entirely. But no...you had to give me every improvement I have been waiting for (except promotion/relegation) and now I will be forced to pre-order a copy of this blasted game next week.

In all seriousness, thanks for all of your hard work. I have been playing since OOTP4 and have not been this exited about an upcoming release in years. Love the new feature list and the much improved interface. League associations and expanded playoffs are something that I have wanted for a very long time.

For the record, I am actually upgrading from OOTP9. Keep up the good work and I might not wait four more years to upgrade.

I am thrilled about the expanded playoffs. I know that I have been very picky about this feature but I invest a lot of time playing the game and have specific ways that I want to set up my league.

I said that I would order on the day that I saw the expanded playoff feature and I have. Thank you Markus!

There was someone actually working on this aspect, but they left to work somewhere else and the improvement was sidelined...hopefully until a later version sometime down the road.

I am curious which tactical baseball decisions you find missing from the game? Currently, in pitch-by-pitch play of games, any decision a real-life manager can make is pretty much already available in the game. Positioning fielders, holding runners, pitching around hitters, intentional walk, sending runners, various bunting options, variations of hit and run, deciding to send a runner to an additional base on a ball in play,...

Yearly preorder is in.

Lots of nice new features. Most aren't going to immediately impact my game but that's ok. There is a ton of stuff here that will impact many and are also good building blocks for the future.

I play at a slow pace so improved P creation probably won't show up at the MLB level in my game until v14. Have to be created and then go through my feeders and then minors. Still excited though to have this added.

League associations- expanded playoffs: Maybe I'm missing something but when converting a standard MLB setup from 12 to 13 I assume I will see no changes? I don't see this affecting my play until a "working" winter ball is added where it becomes easy to send young players there to get more playing time (sounding like maybe v14?). Still very happy to see it as I know it will add so much to the game for other users.

Of course the getting the new MLB playoff setup and being able to customize will be great.

Interactive story lines will add more depth to the game and is something I will use. Some day I hope this reaches FM levels in being able to communicate with your players. It is nice to be able to explain to a player why he is being benched etc. and then get his reaction. I'm sure this will be a work in progress for many versions and that is fine.

Appreciate all of the under the hood improvements, game gets better every year. I used to dominate my solo league with little effort. I've now missed the playoffs three years running. While most might not celebrate such a thing I do and thank Markus for continuing to make improvements in this area of OOTP.

Interface: Wow. First quick glance, since I had to be to work, I wasn't sure. It just seemed so different. Having taken time for a good look and am really looking forward to seeing it in action. Lots more good info available at a glance on the player's card is always a good thing.

Player history being broken down into selectable categories is a VERY nice addition.

I like the cut-out (no background) look for the player pics though I will miss the real stadium backgrounds I use as they add a little flavor IMHO. I am wondering how will these look "on the field" during games? Team logos will be visible behind the players in the small oval frame?

In the nameplate on the team and player cards is the picture of the batter at the plate. Any chance this will be customizable to each team? Might be cool to be able to put home field, or any team specific, pictures here.

Looking forward to seeing many new screenshots as I assume they will answer any questions I may have.

I do have one question since the "contract & status" screen is not shown. Has more info been added here? I put up three requests back in 2011 that I hope can be added. As your stats show most of us look at this screen a lot and it appears to me there is room to get even more good info on the screen.

Adding draft history (year, round, pick) would be very cool and something I go to the history tab a lot to find out.

The minor league split salary isn't something we should have to guess at and something new users are probably never aware of due to it not being listed here.

And having player age on the salary report, while again a small thing, does streamline the info you need when planning your team's future.

I hope these "small" ( yeah, I'm no programmer so use the term "small" knowing I could very well be wrong) additions are possible to add. If for some reason this isn't easy I fully understand it not being done.

Listening to feedback, I have reduced my list to issues that I am not sure if they have been resolved or not. Would love to hear from you Markus! :

  • If a defensive player or pitcher gets injured on the last pitch of a half inning, you must immediately replace him. In real life, you wouldn’t have to identify the replacement until the next inning where the defensive player or pitcher is required. I HATE this. Sometimes I put in a pitcher and he doesn't even pitch. Or I have to make a decision before I would have to normally and then the next half inning changes my decision so I waste a player. Sometimes a pitcher who doesn't pitch gets the win!
  • It is possible to take out a pitcher before he has completed an at-bat. This is only allowed in real life in the case of injury. Markus told me this was fixed, but it is not. I just tried it and was allowed to do it.
  • The second pinch runner in a half inning is recorded in the box score as a pinch hitter, not a pinch runner as would be correct. Also, a pinch hitter or pinch runner for a DH is not recorded as a pinch hitter or pinch runner.
  • When there are runners on base, the bunt for a hit option is not available. There is a difference between a sacrifice bunt and a bunt for a hit in the bunter's technique.
  • Too many players, and too many good players, are placed on waivers. This happens in some leagues and not in others and it's hard to understand what settings cause it to happen.
  • When a player is optioned down, he can't be recalled until 10 days have passed. However, he can be recalled sooner than that if a player on the major league roster is placed on the disabled list. In OOTP you can recall him without an injury at the MLB level.
  • The game sims by at bat and not by pitch. This is illustrated by the take pitch issue, where if you use the take pitch feature (which I love! and is used in real life all the time) until two strikes you get unrealistic results - high walks without high corresponding strikeouts. In other words, there is no disadvantage to going down 0-2, which also affects base stealing strategy.
  • Passed balls and wild pitches seem to occur more frequently with a man on third base.
  • I know work has been done and progress realized in this category, but: man on 3rd, 1 out, pitching team up 4-0 in the bottom of the 7th and I get intentionally walked. This would never happen. It's better than OOTP 10, but unrealistic intentional walks are still issued occasionally.
  • Injured players cannot be replaced on the playoff roster.
  • Short relievers, who are not stretched out, can pitch too long and too effectively in a spot start.
Thank you! I am already buying two copies of the game because I am very happy the DH issue has been fixed, as well as the rehab issue.

In my experience, this is absolutely true and a problem. I regularly have 3 or 4 of the top five players in BB's.
