Pitch Outs...

How are folks doing when they pitch out and the runner does take off from 1st to 2nd? What's your success rate? I had a 15 arm catcher take 3 pitch outs on a steal rated runner of 20 and not get him either time. Maybe understandable. But then same catcher rating on a p-o on a 17 rated stealer. All 3 were in safe. I've tried this other times, but don't remember the ratings, but it seem's to me my success rate in less then 10% if that. I'm just curious is it just my bad luck, or is this a 'tendency'.

Thanks.

Too small a sample size to draw conclusions. Be wary of that in the future, that's a staple statement around these parts

Personally I don't pitch out too often. I'd like to go pitch by pitch but one pitch is just so darn convenient

I have caught people with pitch outs and vice versa. Check pitcher hold ratings also.

IIRC pitch-outs only increase the success rates from around 30% to 50% IRL, although I don't have the numbers in front of me. They aren't the automatic baserunner kill people think they are.

Thanks folks. I realize it's a small sample but several things made me sensitive to the matter. One, I just saw said catcher in a real game throw out a couple runners. Then, in game, I tie Texas for the season and have to have a play-off game for 1st place. (and this is after my CY pitcher goes on the disabled list with 9 games left in season and play-offs ready to start). So play-off game with Texas goes 11 innings and Texas wins by 3 successful steals, two of which were successful steals with pitch outs.Baseball gawds are pounding me down

So a pitchers hold rating is a partial determinant in a pitch out? Not just the speed of the runner versus arm of the catcher?
