In this case it was a guy I had never heard of starting up a league similar to mine at a time where I needed more guys to join mine, so his timing was a bit off, too.
I agree that this is an efficient way to get some members to join your league. There again, robbing your neighbor is an effective way to get money. I think that e-mailing a league is very effective, yes, and can be very good if it is legit. However, not asking the commissioner is not necessarily the best idea you can have. Just tonight a member of my league (who is also a genius well-known member of this board) asked me if I had given permission to Moriarty to e-mail the league. It was the 5th of my guys to show some concern about it. Again, if he would've asked me, maybe I would've told him to go ahead, given him the permission. However, he chose a disrespectful way, which I found to be pretty sad. I think it's pretty stupid to argue that much over such a small thing

I also received an e-mail from the oil can guy, stating he saw my e-mail addy from the OOBL League. I find it a tad unprofessional to grab e-mails and send out a message, about your league, in this manner.
But what takes the cake, is what happened recently in the iMLB. A guy is looking to start up a league and just went ahead and posted it on our message board, with a link to his league, without even bothering to ask the commish. You can read it here. |

People, get over it.
If people abandon your league to join this other guy's, it's because your league sucks. Stop complaining, and get off your high horse. Thanks. |

The whole unique and new thing is a moot point. If you're going to keep going on about it and trying to trash me, then go ahead. You're really stretching it with that but I really could care less what you think as far as that goes.
Regarding the e-mail, yea I sent one out to the league members. As I have done with a couple of other leagues. When you've got a league that requires 90 members you need to come up with some ideas as to how to recruit because posting on the OOTP board and asking friends isnt going to add up to 90 people who want to join. The only reason I mentioned in the email to your members that the league was similar to Beta Baseball was simply because I saw the whole 3 positions per team thing. So to that end I thought it'd interest them. It was in no means intended to make someone quit yours and join mine (and since you said nobody has quit then it didnt happen). People can be in multiple leagues, obviously. A couple of people from your league responded and wanted to join. One of those members emailed me back and thought I was taking over Beta Baseball and applauded me for it for whatever reasons. I wasn't going to bring that out to the open because I'm not looking to blast you or your league. Far as I'm concerned, the OCBL is a unique league. If there is any other 2003 current MLB roster league with an owner, manager and GM for each team, waiver wires, 10/5 players, franchise players, use of an inseason/offseason simulator and such, then I will no longer claim to call it unique. Good luck finding one. Once again, feel free to join! ![]() http://oilcanboyd.web1000.com/

And just to clear the air on what the email to the Beta Baseball guys stated, here it is:
Hey, I got your email address from the owner's page from the Beta Baseball, a league very similar to the one we're setting up. We've got a number of spots open in the OCBL; owners, GMs and managers. Please check us out at http://oilcanboyd.web1000.com/ and let me know if youre interested. Shaun Moriarty OCBL Commissioner

If I wanted to blast you, I would've used a much more explicit and pejorativer language than "It is customary to ask the commissioner".
I am not worried about people leaving my league for yours, as I've said before that's really not my concern. I just think it would be polite to ask the commissioner before e-mailing the members. You have 90 spots to fill, that's perfectly fine by me and I totally understand the use of mass mailing. However, as I said, I think permission should be asked. Also, I think I have a good idea who the "appplauding owner" was, quite a funny guy if it is who I think .Look, I don't hate you, I think I've been fairly calmed when I could've ealily fallen into facility and said "Don't join this idiot's league! He's an a-hole and he's stupid". Anyway, no hard feelings from me.
