1) I'm unsure as to how you are employing the term "science fiction" here. To my understanding, science fiction is a genre that that makes imaginative use of scientific knowledge. Not sure that a women's league would fall under this heading, as it would not require a great advance in science to accomplish. 2) Perhaps more importantly, the strict dichotomy that you have drawn seems to discount the possibility of a game that has enough customization options to appeal to both crowds. I'm not convinced that it has to be one or the other. |

That is certainly a good idea, and one I've actually suggested in the past.

I don't care about the issue one way or the other. But if you're asking me to rank the idea in terms of priority, I'd put it way down the list.

I'm certainly not, and I'm not sure anyone in this thread has.

The only thing I would note about the mod route is that for modders to do it, it would mean they have to overwrite an existing name set and obviously there's FaceGen issues. So I could understand why some people aren't satisfied with the mod route, but yeah, no one is saying this is an immediate issue. It's one amongst tons of things people want to see, and seemingly low priority.

I agree - leave female leagues to the modders. I would like to see the ability in OOTP Facegen to accept long hair mods.

If it's not in THE SHOW then it is science fiction. There are no girls in THE SHOW. How dare anyone want to use OOTP for doing anything that is not in THE SHOW.

Dola,
All kidding aside, I couldn't care less if this was a feature of the game. OOTP is a product and Business 101 tells you that you design your product to suit your customers wants and needs. If there is enough demand for "science fiction" type stuff then the game should contain that. Although, and it's semantics, I don't see female players as "science fiction." Whatever is going to please the most customers and increase revenue and profits is what Markus should spend his time on. To say the game should contain only things present in "THE SHOW" is not necessarily the best business decision, although it might be. That's what you pay the big bucks to the marketing guys for.

Yep. Someone decided to lie about me after I thought I was done, so I came back.

Science fiction refers to fictional things that don't exist in this world but might exist, usually in the future. Women's baseball leagues don't and have never existed, and I'm sure that they won't in the future, but since they MIGHT possibly exist one day they do constitute science fiction. Personally I view them as an impossibility, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt; they're science fiction at best.
Before this thread I thought this game was about baseball and was for baseball fans. I am quite sorry to have learned otherwise.

As with many people on here u wont find a bigger baseball fan then me, we all overall know the history of our teams, know the ins & outs of baseball, and most of us can never be considered bandwagon or fairweather fans. Yes I have a Science Fiction league that I have been playing for 23 yrs...YEARS, brother not 23 days...I created my league in 1988, Women came into that league in 1994, Japanese players came in that league in 1990...there was no Hideo Nomo yet. Seekiko Zenith is a HOF 1B in my league a full 5 yrs before Nomo played, was that science fiction in 1990? perhaps but it happened IRL. I didnt add my 1st Japanese pitcher until after Nomo played. I took my love of baseball and combined it with my love of Star Wars and refined it over the yrs. I have played this league which I am starting from scratch on various PC games since 1992ish. prior to that it was done with homemade baseball cards. In the 1930's (and before and after) having blacks play baseball would have been considered science fiction, many people considered them 2nd class citizens. If girls played baseball in HS vs softball it is conceivable that there would be girls in baseball eventually. Last edited by Chicagofan76; 05-17-2011 at 10:59 PM. |

I personally don't find any of these conclusions compelling. Last edited by MimesisBTG; 05-17-2011 at 11:18 PM. |
