And as a long suffering (one would assume) Cubs fan (if that's what his handle means), this poster knows everything about waiting for the perfect form of entertainment, so I would definitely heed his advice here.

Oh, come now. That's not fair. Many of us just don't experience the things others have experienced. Some of us don't play historical leagues, some don't use scouts, some don't sim for 50 or more years before starting to actually control a team. Some don't care about certain stats that others care deeply about and see as broken.
And, to be honest, I've seen people label as "bugs" certain things that are either 1) part of real life baseball or 2) quirks of the game that impact few if any of the people who play the game. I want everybody who buys this game to feel that they are getting their money's worth. But to say that "70% of the users don't care about bugs" isn't true and isn't fair.

Earned runs and RBI's are both bugged. 70% of users said in a poll that they don't want another patch anyway. What I said stands. 70% of users do not care about bugs.

I have seen some posts on this - tell me, were they not bugged in the previous version? I don't recall ever seeing postings in previous editions. And if they were, does this mean that all the other PC games have these working correctly and only OOTP has it wrong?
And dare I ask what percentage of total rbi's that the bug affects? And how much will someone's ERA drop over a season? |

Because most users would like for Markus to have more time to work on OOTP 12 and maybe fix those bugs there instead of being slowed by having to make a new patch, it means that they don't care about bugs? My God, that's as ridiculous as polling 100 people on if they like swiss cheese, seeing 65% of them say no, and concluding that 65% of all people hate people from Switzerland.

The only difficulty with that is that those bugs were there in OOTPX. For whatever reason they weren't fixed in 11 (though I know Markus did get a number of others repaired). Beyond blind faith, what reason is there to think that they'll be fixed in 12? As said in another thread, the more new features that get added, the more difficult it may be to go back and recode areas of the game that need major work to be debugged. I think that's why folks would like to see the bugs dealt with BEFORE more new stuff is added in the next version. And as was also pointed out in that thread, new features need debugging of their own, which takes time away from repair of legacy bugs. I guess we can all go back and forth on this till the cows come home. Bottom line is that Markus is the only one who can tell us what he thinks about these particular legacy bugs and the chances of killing them, and Markus ain't talkin'!

As far as not talking, that's probably the best route to go as a game developer. Why tell the community that you're working long and hard to fix specific bugs if there is the chance that, when ficed, they present new bugs? That'd just make most of the community more riled than we seem to be getting now with no word from Markus. EDIT: That being said, I do agree with a statement made in a different thread that patches should focus only on fixing bugs and new features should only be added with new releases.

Maybe he could hire Shaun Sullivan to be his communication person. He was always good at keeping the users of his game informed. Last edited by StyxNCa; 09-24-2010 at 09:43 PM. |

He just recently said on the puresim forum that he has a new major thing that popped up in his life and that he's done with puresim, and will probably make it open source.

Being a developer sounds less stressful. Really would you want to try and keep this zoo happy?

Interesting. I've always said if Markus is ever done with OOTP he should make it open source.

It might have something to do with the fact that it sold very poorly. At some point you have to pull the plug.

I don't let the lack of perfection prevent my enjoyment.
I am also grateful my wife has felt the same way about me for over 30 years. |
