Career Ending Injury
I just lost Jair Jurrjens and Derek Lowe in the second season of my Braves franchise. Any way to stop losing my best players to these career ending injury? FWIW I have my injury slider set to High (Realistic Modern day)

despite its description I personally find High a bit too drastic. I usually go with low and even very low. Though low is probably the most realistic imo.

It probably depends on your era, although I play in the 30s and still like High. Low is definitely easier to manage though.

I play with retire according to history and recalc on and player development off, so career ending injuries are abundantly redundant for my taste. The player is already going to retire when he's supposed to. I don't want him taken out of the database before his time thankyou very much. Go ahead and sideline him for a year and a half with a nasty injury if you want, but let me be in charge of when players retire.

WEll, I've been known to edit it into 12 months injuries. At least I do with young players. Jurrjens I probably would, Lowe maybe not.

Even low gets out of hand at times, Lost 2 SPs in August, called 2 up, had one of the 2 go down with CEI (was also my number 1 pick 2 years ago) and then my star CF gets a CEI on defensive play (fractured skull) a week later.
I think that was the 1st time I ever restored from a backup. |

I seems as I look back over 7 seasons of league play there has been at least 1 every season which I think is to high for the "low setting" After that I went in and adjusted injury file I did not take CEI's complete out but I did adjust how many there are. |

I don't think I'd mind CEIs if I played fictionals, but I don't. If I did, I'd probably swap out my custom injury file with the original one. You have more players with fictionals, so there's more of a buffer there and some of us when playing historicals like to see guys stick around for as long as they did IRL. Admittedly it's a personal thing, so you've got to decide what's right for you and go with it.

Actually, I'd make more of a habit of taking a look see at all CEIed players my team or no for turning into the 18 month thing. But, the AI has a habit of dumping them like useless garbage right after the game is played. Personally, that just seems unrealistic, even if it is a career ender the guy wouldnt be cut 2 hours after that game. And in fact probably would be DLed for the season. In real life, the organization would get in a bit of a PR disaster for such treatment.
Course, there was one guy who got CEIed in a OOTP league of mine a few years ago, that got dumped like that from SF. And on the last day of the season I laid hands and miraculously healed him, and so in the offseason I briefly took over the Dodgers to sign him. Just to be evil.

I usually leave my settings at default. I'm not sure what that is. However, I don't really see too many CEIs, although they seem to come at the worst times: Like it's doing it on purpose.
Had a team on a playoff run, lose their #1 pitcher (by the way, never sign Ben Sheets. He always ends with a CEI). Had a different team lose their leadoff hitter, got me fired. And by the way. Who quits baseball with a concussion? football I understand, but baseball? And how does one receive a concussion in baseball? I know that Rowand got one when he smacked into the wall, but how often does that happen?

And I'm sure I've missed some. I read an article on Yahoo! sports a week or so ago that said at that time there were five players on the DL with concussions, and that article didn't mention the Mets' Jason Bay. Of those, two were expected to be season-enders, and Bay's may turn out to be. |

Corey Koskie had a concussion that turned out to be a career ender. (though he might have played some international ball since then)

I also think there are too many CEI and i always use OOTP classic as i find that the best for me. I wish there was a way to limit the number per season for the league. Say 2 or 3 per year for the whole league. This is a topic that has come up year after year ever since CEI were introduced....

They just got Roy Halladay with that CEI in my third year but I went in and unretire him. They need to address this issue in OOTP12
