Story lines

How deeply disappointing--no mention whatsoever of story lines in the updates and patches link. This was touted as a great new immersion element in this version, and it was a big selling point for me, yet very little has come of it. Seems like it has become an ugly step-child, abandoned and forgotten in this version. Hopefully, Markus hasn't given up on it, and it will be fully implemented in version 12. But I ain't holdin' my breath.

What does 'fixed legacy bug with fielder substitutions' mean?

Excited for the patch, not so excited for iOOTP, mainly because I don't have an iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad and have no plans to get one. Ah well, it's a good niche to fill and might grow the fanbase for the full game.

Exactly. if it introduces more people to the OOTP product and gets more users to purchase OOTP12, then it's a positive thing for us all.

8. "Problems with using master.csv instead of odb file"

What problem was there with this?

27. Possible problem with the player ratings editor

What was the problem?

I'm asking because I didn't know there were any, not to be smarmy.

"5. Ghost players unavailable in fictional leagues"

You mean ghost players can't be used at all for fictional leagues? Why is this? I hate trying to maintain complete minors in any type of league. It just takes the enjoyment out of the game for me.

If this is true, isn't this going to cause major headaces and problems with fictional online leagues as every manager tries to sign 100's of FAs to fill their minor leagues all at once? As well as solo leagues?

They are a list of bugs that have been fixed, not what they have been fixed to. I'm guessing some fictional setups couldn't use ghost players.

Apparently there was a problem with ghost players not working and now they are. I hadn't even noticed since I don't keep the boxscores from the minors.

Also, the ability for individual GMs to create baseball cards for their teams instead of just the commish is the best thing about this last patch. Kudos.

Quickstart question

I asked this in the thread about ML rosters, but then realized I was probably asking in the wrong thread. I know that the folks working on the 2010 MLB rosters have made some changes to the roster set, but these changes are not reflected in the Quickstart in this patch. Are there any plans to make these changes available to the community?

I've been away from OOTP for a while, and had figured I'd wait for OOTP 12 before getting back in. But this sale grabbed my attention and I believe it's changed my mind.

My only problem is that I started playing around with Linux this summer and am starting to like it...and even to understand it just a little. So my laptop is now a dual-boot Windows XP/Linux Mint KDE setup, and that means I have to decide which license to buy. Can I find enough time over the weekend to give both demos a thorough run-through?

Would anyone out there happen to have advice on whether taking the Linux plunge would make any sense for a person like me? Would speed or reliability differ much between the two? (My laptop is a decent but not spectacular Pentium Dual-Core, with less-wretched-than-average integrated graphics.) Have Windows-only utilities or add-ons been developed that I would miss? Would it be too much hassle, for too little benefit, for a relative Linux newbie?

(If only the dual-license was Windows-Linux instead of Windows-Mac!)

Good lord, it's nice to not have any opinions that you feel the need to share with anyone. Enjoy it. It won't last.

I posted about this problem here back in June. If you scroll to the final post of the thread you can see why it's a problem. 115 errors by two teams in one game being mostly responsible for 125 combined runs...is...well...a bit much if you ask me. And that wasn't exactly an isolated case.

Unfortunately according to this thread, patch 11.2.23 has done nothing to address this issue. It can be gotten around by importing each player individually after deleting the original bunch of fielding rejects, but that's a lot of trouble to go to in the later years of baseball. Not too bad in 1871 when there are only 115 players in the whole database.

Note: It only arises when one uses Neutralized Stats in combination with a modified stats folder (specifically the Master file). If the historical database.odb is left in there it's fine. Of course, you can't use a modified stats folder without getting rid of the .odb database otherwise it will overwrite any changes you've made to the Master file and therein lies the problem...And so it goes.
