![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() No, steroids don't help people hit more home runs. Strength has nothing to do with home run hitting! This is why Pesky hit more home runs than Mantle, why Aparicio hit more than Stargell, etc. These little skinny guys were cranking out 50 HR seasons while the big burly guys with muscles were struggling to hit 10, right??? Because strength is meaningless when it comes to home run hitting! And of course, steroids don't help, nope. Not at all. Kinda funny how in the late '90s and early '00s a bunch of guys who were caught on PEDS hit 50,60,70 HRs, but now that testing has been tightened up, hardly anyone can come close to those numbers anymore....

), but it sums up my position on the matter. Think of it this way, jax and other apologists: If steroids did not help improve athletic performance, include the hitting of home runs, why would the people who are in the best position to know, and who had to run the health risks, have taken them? The players - why did they take steroids? Last edited by 1998 Yankees; 08-07-2010 at 06:58 PM. |

Ever hear of playing half your games in a park that greatly favored hitters? (note: no home/road batting breakdown was found at baseball-reference, so this assessment subject to change if those numbers are produced)

![]() Anyhow, I believe there was more than one reason for the prolonged hitting surge, BUT, steroids was one of the bigger factors.

More science than I was expecting. But, it'll take a while to dissect it. And I wont pretend it is the most coherent paper I have even seen.

So this thread is saying small guys dont hit as many hrs as big guys?
Whats the weight cutoff at? I think Ted Williams claimed bat speed helped more. I dont think Joe Dimaggio was that big but maybe he was for that time. What about big guys who cant hit hrs. |

My wife is like 5'1, 105 lbs and she can crank home runs all day long on the Wii. Its total talent and involves no strength or explosiveness to blast them deep.
