I have no problem with the refs calling all of Shaq's offensive fouls, as he does indeed knock people over 4-5 times a game without it getting called.

However, if this is to be the case, then every time Shaq gets hacked on the arm or bumped on the shoulder it should be called too. This happens probably 40-50 times a game without it getting called.

Those of you who are big fans of San Antonio, Sacramento, etc. might think you want all the fouls called in games in which Shaq's involved. However, I don't think this is really what you want. If ALL the fouls both ways were called, Shaq might foul out, but would likely score about 70 points before doing so. What you really want is for the refs to be more slanted against the Lakers.
I totally agree. (And no, I am not a Lakers fan, far from it)

Couldn't have said it better myself. Also why is it only a foul when Shaq turns his shoulder and moves into the lane? Duncan does the same thing and nobody says a thing. He may not weigh 350+ and knock someone back as badly but he's still creating space for himself by displacing the defender.

the only time a foul is ever called against the guy guarding shaq is when shaq is displaced in midair or hacked across the arms/shoulders/head when he's in the act of shooting. they give him very little leeway because of his size. however, every defender he faces makes a point of pushing with both hands or completely rapping both arms around shaq before the catch, usually with no call. eckstein is right, if they call everything, it will work in the lakers favor.

as for the minnesota series, game 3, i agree that there were some horrible calls down the stretch of that game in the lakers favor. i always hear game 6 of last year's sacramento series as exhibit a of the lakers getting calls, but i watched that game from start to finish and didn't think it was ridiculous. i know bibby got popped on the chin by kobe in the last minute as a direct result of moving under kobe on the catch of an inbounds. that's supposed to be a foul on the defender every time, an offensive player has to be able to come down. even if you wanted to whistle kobe, it would have to be a double foul, which i've always felt was pointless unless a brawl is ready to take place. the reason why i didn't think game 6 was a big deal was because i watched game 5 of the same series, where sacramento got rewarded for flop after flop and bobby jackson got away with a cross body block on kobe on the last possession. which goes back to my original point, home teams get calls in the nba.

matt davis-if you genuinely believe that the nba threw game 6 for the lakers, then you believe that the nba is the same as sports entertainment, like pro wrestling. the league decides who it wants as a champion, and there's nothing else real about it. then, from your perspective, why watch pro basketball?

i can see the ad now...tired of watching predetermined outcomes of nba games??? new from 400 software studios, total pro basketball!!!

Yes I believe they threw that game for the lakers, but I do not believe they intend on having like wrestling where everything is staged and premade outcomes are determined. Thats not why I said that, im only referring to a couple of the lakers games, not the league or any other series, Yes its fine to expect a home team to get more calls, I understand it and im fine with it, what I don't like seeing those is the league give a team a better chance then any other home team to win a game. Thats unfair and quite frankly I find it to be cheating the other teams in the league.

I like basketball and I will never stop watching it and playing it, but I don't like the fact that the nba are giving advantages to the lakers because one it makes them more money when they can have a longer series and two because they want to have another dynasty like the bulls which obviously they have gotten. Im not gonna take anything away from the lakers either, there an awesome team and they deserve their rings for their hardwork, but I don't feel its right that the league made it easier for them.

I feel the refs are " wanting " the Lakers to go to the Finals like a few people. But since I am not a Lakers fan and some are, what is the point of me explaining? We can all just agree to disagree.. Because we all love one another!
