Messi just scored the 4th fastest hat trick in the era of the Champions League, Mike Newell scored the fastest for Blackburn Rovers. May I add an ex Wigan Athletic player

Hard to play against 12 men, poor sending off decision. Now we get to look forward to either Inter boring us to death in a final against Bayern/Lyon or Barca stuffing either Lyon/Bayern oh happy days

Poor sending off decision? Both yellows were about as clear cut as it gets.

Clear cut as it gets ? Even Ribery dove into Rafael knowing full well what he was doing, if every player got booked for grabbing an opponent we'd be down to 5 a side by the way why wasn't Ribery yellow carded ? That was more clear cut than the foul. No direspect but your the only one who as stated it was clear cut, even Liverpool and Man City fans are saying it was harsh and that's saying something.

If you think a Liverpool or Man City fan would stick up for a Man Utd fan just because their all English teams you know very little about football.

Whats the going rate these days for UEFA fines ? Last time I took any notice of them they fined think it was Spain for racial abuse at English players, it came to around £50,000. Going of that Fergie will be fined £10.

And yet, I still haven't seen anyone who isn't English (apart from the odd foreign Man U fan) complain about either of Rafael's cards. There might be valid complaints that the referee didn't give out more cards than he did, but you will always get a card (occasionally a red one) for kicking another player away from the ball, and you will always get a card for pulling an attacker's jersey after he gets past you. It's that simple.

I give up trying to explain to you the reason why your wrong on this, maybe the fact your just watching games on tv that you don't understand Liverpool and Man City fans would rather side with Bayern fans than Man Utd fans despite them being English.

At least "Sir" wasnt whining too much about the niggling of Rooneys ankle. If you send out an injured player, expect him to be "tested". As for Raphael, I don't think the ref had any other course of action. As for no one else saying it was "clear cut", theres plenty saying other wise. It was a professional foul, and he already had a yellow. Either way, ManU blew it. Starting a 50% Rooney was a gamble that backfired, and as for his "typical Germans" comment, A. it was poor form and B. Pot-Kettle-Black...how many times have ManUtd pressured a ref into giving cards. I also noted no mention of Valencia's "roll around and look back to see if the ref's noticed me" trick.....possibly the most annoying aspect of modern football. Get up off the ground and play the &$#^ing game properly.
![]() I also dislike Robben, but I loved his reaction/celebration after the cracker he scored. ![]() http://www.theoffside.com/tournament...-it-again.html Last edited by LFC1892; 04-08-2010 at 09:42 AM. |

I don't think anybody as stated that "As for no one else saying it was "clear cut". I said that many Liverpool and Man City fans who have a pure hatred for Man Utd which is more than they have for Bayern have said it was an harsh sendng off, like I said if your going to book someone for that every time your going to end up with 5 a side.
At the end of the day the ref should have either. A) Going of the letter of the law he should have booked Rafael and sent him off, then he should have booked Ribery for unsporting behaviour then also sent him off later on for his second unsporting behaviour offense. (No ref goes of the letter of the law or you would have 10 penalties per game and end up with 5 a side) or B) Warn Rafael he was on his last chance and not book him or Ribery. He did neither. |

For those of us who are relatively "noobs" when it comes to the soccer/football world..... Why have I heard it said that the World Cup is overrated and oversold to the general public? Seems to me it would be like the Champions League on steroids...

I have no idea. The World Cup is the greatest sporting event in the world. Sometimes the teams do play too defensively and I thought the 2006 Cup featured way too many fouls and yellow cars. But it is still the greatest event in sports.
